  1. 2 in, 0 out for a score of +2
  2. Probably the Spector Legend 6 that has been through several previous BC owners.
  3. IIRC Nothing-era Meshuggah would tune their 8 string guitars to low F, with the bass in the same octave. Edit: which @thodrik already mentioned 🙄
  4. I didn't do the mod, but I believe this was a Wilkinson 4+1, similar to this one one Reverb. The string tree has a screw (or an allen bolt, I forget) that holds the D string in place. It was a bit of a pain to string up tbh because the bridge tuner didn't have that much room to wind the string on, so you had to hold the string as tightly as possible with pliers, screw it down, and hope you had enough turns left at the bridge to bring it up to pitch, although once it was up to pitch it worked well enough. If you wanted it to be tidy you had to cut the string right after the string tree, too. It did look very cool, but I could never get a decent sound out of the B string on that particular bass unfortunately (I'm pretty sure there weren't any real Fender parts on it, despite what the headstock says).
  5. Still available, and may be more inclined to trade + cash your way now as the building work I was saving up for has just been postponed indefinitely 🙃
  6. I thought this had been done but I'm getting confused about my Ibanez models, it was a Mezzo. I have had a 5 string on a 4 string Precision neck bass*, and my recollection was that it was playable but with very little margin for error -- the nut spacing in particular was very cosy. As others have noted, 1mm on the outside of the G string makes it very easy to pull the string off the edge of the board. I wonder if you could have less space outside of the B and more outside of the G, as IME when fretting you're pushing the string somewhere between straight into the fretboard and towards the floor, but rarely upwards towards the player. *please excuse the crappy pictures and the ink-stained carpet 🙈
  7. How have I never seen one of these before? Wow. The string spacing makes it look like 6 strings on a 5 string neck...
  8. I don't think so -- although the top strings are noticeable heavy the others aren't nearly heavy enough to go down a full octave, e.g. this 11-56 set is sold for D standard tuning. The bottom 6 of an 8 string set might get you closer, but that .074 will be optimised for a low F# at ~27" scale, and IME that's still a compromise. Also a lot of regular guitar tuners won't fit more than a .060 or so without either drilling out the tuner or unwinding the string.
  9. Learn them together. Theory informs technique and vice versa.
  10. You need to define what value means for you, I think. Are you going to get the most bass for your money? Probably not, but it will likely hold its value in the second hand market more than a lot of brands. Some people like having the brand attached, and that's ok too. (Would I buy one? No, but ymmv.)
  11. Good quality entry-level fanned fret guitar with 25.5"-27" scale. Locking tuners. Set up with a very playable medium-low action. Excellent condition. There are some minor finish blemishes around the faux binding which seem to have come from the factory but nothing you can see from more than a foot away. Only other issue is that the G tuner no longer locks -- it still functions fine as a normal tuner and holds tune with no problems. £300 new, looking for £150. Not really looking for trades or PX as I'm trying to thin the herd slightly but feel free to try me -- could be tempted by a 7 string with a locking trem or a 5 string bass with a 35"+ scale. Collection or may be able to meet in central Glasgow. No case included so would rather not ship, but if you're really keen give me a shout and I can look into it.
  12. Ah, I see you've never seen my attempts at soldering.🙈
  13. Can't speak to whether it's fair but I paid about £60 to get a set of pickups swapped at Strung Out Guitars in Glasgow recently. £25/h seems on the low side for quality labour to me, especially in our current times.
  14. I have two sets of packaging from bass purchases, one from Thomann and one from BC which is from an ibanez originally - free to anyone who can collect in Glasgow G51. They'll be going in the recycling if no-one wants them.
  15. Make sure your thumb is parallel with the string - might take some getting used to if you're not used to that position though.
  16. If it's for headphone practice you might be better off with a standalone pedal? That would widen your options considerably. Darkglass Element springs to mind but there are plenty of alternatives.
  17. thanks for the heads up, I need another drum VST like I need a hole in the head but grabbed some of the midi packs to jam to
  18. Metallic burgundy with tort is certainly a choice that was made...
  19. I doubt you'll hear any noticeable difference between them. I've been very happy with my SSL2 for a similar use case, although that was an opportunistic second hand buy rather than a considered choice.
  20. Is it rattling when you play the open E or when you fret the low F? If it's the latter shimming the nut won't help.
  21. I'm quite impressed that they seem to have taken a 5 string, fretted viola in their stride.
  22. Do you get a nice crisp sound?
  23. Oh yes, good spot! I just saw the matching headstock and put 2 and 2 together to make 5.
  24. Looks like a jazz with exactly the same body shape and a matching headstock...? https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_jb_62cc_dr.htm
