1. Update! It went away all by itself Took the battery out, put the same one back in, tried unscrewing the preamp from the body before realising that wasn't practical and gave up. Plugged it in and it sounds fine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
2. Hah, small world -- pretty sure the person who sold this is my dad, unless someone else listed the same thing at the same time for the same price
3. That is a *lot* of bass for not very much money.
4. Bump for the weekend. Can possibly add cash for interesting basses/guitars if you need to liquidate some assets
5. Thanks! I actually thought for a second it was you I bought it from but that was BassJase
6. Thanks! I agree, they are great value. Looked into shipping and it looks like it should be about £25 for the pair couriered to mainland UK.
7. Just got this back from setup: This originally belonged to the guitarist in my first band many years ago, who gave it to me as a fixer-upper, which I did, then it went to my sister for a while, then it sat in my Mum's front room for a few years when my sister moved abroad. Sounds pretty monstrous with a bit of gain on.
8. If I was shelling out £3k-ish for a second-hand bass I'd probably want something I could adjust the action on.
9. Rather taken with that, though I doubt I could afford to keep it in strings. Some interesting tuning possibilities if you forgo straight fourths, too — 6 string bass + 7 string guitar in one, maybe?
10. Time to move on some long-stay patients to free up some room in the rack. Not sure what model these are — they're often sold as International Series but that applies to a lot of Peavey gear. You'll struggle to find nicer playing basses for the money though. Almost convinced myself to keep them. Both basses are set up with very low action and light gauge Elixirs (£45 or so a set!). String through bridge or body (currently through bridge). I play with a very light touch, and both basses have pretty flat relief and have had the B, E, and G bridge saddles filed to get the action low enough for my taste. Passive, VVTT. Nice cutaway neck joint for shredding up the dusty end. Nice quilted veneer(?) top. Fretted (red): Good condition. Minor playing wear, one small chip in the finish at the neck pocket. The volume knobs have been swapped around for some reason. The truss rod nut was stripped when I got it, it was replaced by Strung Out Guitars in Glasgow and works fine now. Rarely played since I got my Conklin. Fretless (orange): Good condition, some small dents but nothing through the finish. Nothing you can see without looking for it. Defretted before it arrived with me, fretlines have been filled with veneer strips or similar. Some minor roundwound wear on the board but nothing that affects playability. Mwah for days. Looking for £130 each or £250 for the pair. Trades/PX considered, basses with 5+ strings or guitars with 7+ strings in particular. Rather trade up + cash, especially if you have a nice fretless. Local deal preferred but shipping can probably be arranged. I'm in Glasgow G51, near the south end of the Clyde Tunnel. Welcome to come try, I make a pretty good coffee.
11. I have a cheapish Yamaha acoustic with an active preamp for the piezo pickup. When plugged in it makes a horrendous buzzing, totally overwhelming the sound of the guitar, except when I touch metal parts of the jack cable. I guess this is a grounding issue? Can anyone say whether it's likely to be difficult to resolve? Thanks.
12. Still here. I'd probably take £90 (+ shipping if needed) or trade/px for something interesting.
13. Also ideal for popping on the end of your double bass's endpin so it doesn't slip/make a mess of the floor
14. Is this something a tech would be able to do as a matter of routine, then?
15. I have a bass with what I believe to be a Wilkinson bridge -- it's one of the crazy 5 string conversion bridges. A couple of the saddle height adjusters appear to be bust -- I managed to get the screws out, but I had to force them and screws that work in the other saddles won't go in, despite working fine in their own slot. I assume this means the thread on the saddle itself is damaged, and simply replacing the screw is unlikely to help. Is there any way of fixing that, short of replacing the entire saddle? Cheers.
16. Still open to offers/trades -- especially 5+ string basses, 7+ string guitars, studio monitors, WHY.
