  1. I'd quite like a few of the cheaper Ibanez models but I can't bring myself to even think about buying a seafoam green instrument.
  2. Looking at the syllabi they still seem to be very classically focused -- I can't see any option for bass guitar or drum kit for example, and only classical guitar. I'd probably steer clear of these unless specifically requested tbh. The established practical grades are useful for standardising between institutions and building a common repertoire but there's quite a large element of "studying for the test" required IME that probably wouldn't suit a self-taught multi-instrumentalist.
  3. For classical students Practical Grades are a de-facto standard. These seem a bit less rigorous at a glance, to me. Does he need a cert to take the course he wants?
  4. Not sure if it's stretching the definition of Central Scotland but I've had good service (including a jack replacement) from Jimmy Egypt in Glasgow.
  5. iRealPro seemed like the best answer when I asked a similar question previously:
  6. Have you seen the big Helix thread?
  7. If it's buzz from a flat screen monitor, sometimes turning the instrument so it's at right angles to the screen can help.
  8. Looks like they are now doing 5 string and 6 string models. For some reason the 4 and 5 strings are 34" and the 6 and 7s are 35", according to the specs?
  9. It would probably have required a full rebuild of my personality at the time but I do wish I'd been more inclined to practice my DB when I was 15-18, instead of just doing enough to get by what my teacher gave me. Ended up as a big fish in the small pond of the local authority schools orchestras, and promptly got eaten when I got the chance to venture outside it.
  10. Yeah fair enough, he's got such a distinctive style I guess I thought the bass might also be distinctive. He probably sounds like himself on any bass though. Anyway, it looks very nice and it's nice to see him getting wider recognition.
  11. Hanks, but no hanks
  12. It's nice but isn't it just a regular BTB spec but fretless and with a nice top? I was hoping for something a little more out there.
  13. Neat, although the value proposition seems a bit wild to me. It seems like a tiny slice of a Stomp's functionality but at 50% of the price?
  14. Love a pointy headstock. What scale length is it?
  15. The opposite of a bright sound, obviously 😬
  16. Yeah, to me it seems like they need to slim the body down a bit to match the, er, more cut-away cut-away
  17. Like I said, not one for the purists 😉
  18. Ha, it's definitely quite a specific niche... some people are ok but it is largely aggressive young American metal guitarists with too much time and money on their hands.
  19. Possibly a stretch to get one in budget but my (unlined) Metro Express has the dots where the lines would be.
  20. They're doing 4s and 7s only this time round, so far anyway https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_bz_4000_ii_nt.htm
  21. Probably twice as much material in the neck and hardware on the 7 too...
  22. My guess is that it will be pretty heavy...
  23. I reckon their demographic is: - one third aspiring fusion shred masters - one third metal dudes who can't afford a Dingwall but want to tune to low F# - one third a bit of both ( I do own a 7 string bass, and would fall into the last third fwiw). There is also a 34" scale 4 string https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_bz_4000_ii_nt.htm
  24. Probably not one for the purists, but a 35" scale neck through 7 string for just over £500 new. Looks pretty cool, and while the headstock is still a bit clunky looking the string pull looks sensible. https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_bz_7000_ii_nt.htm
  25. There must be some sheep in that 10m who fancy themselves as the next Steve Baah-ai who might have one (...I'm sorry I'm trying to delete it)
