  1. I know you don't want to be a shredder but there's probably someone selling an Ibanez RG somewhere in your neighborhood, which tend to have very fast (shallow and quite flat) neck profiles.
  2. Not quite as posh, but here's my pair of Conklin Groove Tools 7s (and their bastard offspring from the same factory)
  3. My experience of Elixirs suggests that they probably will not protect you from the metal 100%, they tend to flake a little, especially if you're playing a lot.
  4. Depends if it's a problem with the nut itself or if the slot isn't cut correctly. Might just need a bit of sanding?
  5. No that doesn't look right to me -- on my fretless 5 the nut is flush with the bottom of the slot
  6. I have a fretless 5 string which is pretty good. I upgraded the pickups to the higher spec version since they came up used but frankly it didn't make much difference.
  7. It reads to me like the 40th anniversary thing is just coincidental timing, and I'd guess Fender might be more impacted as they often make up a large proportion of shop stock compared to other brands.
  8. Nice job, did you have to chisel out space for the 5 string pickup too?
  9. Presume your forklift is just out of shot here 😅
  10. Use the least motion possible is my general advice. If you feel like you're not hitting the input hard enough turn the gain up.
  11. When I played with a band who tuned to D standard I found it much easier to play a 5 string in standard BEADG. That was better than keeping my bass down a tone and transposing when playing with people in standard tuning.
  12. Yep, I take plugs to anywhere there's going to be a PA or a drum kit.
  13. If it sounds fine plugged in I wouldn't worry about it 🤷
  14. £500 for a new bridge??? I know inflation is mad but getting a new DB bridge with adjusters cost me a fraction of that a few years ago.
  15. When will the answer be revealed, since it seems most people already know?
  16. No idea about the handedness debate but IME there is very little about age-group classical ensembles that is representative of the wider population -- you're largely selecting for who showed more "promise" at a very young age, and children with more affluent parents are at a massive advantage. Not sure if that makes it more likely that left-handed children are more able to adapt at that age or are filtered out.
  17. Sounds quite transparent...
  18. YMMV, but if having it around is going to make you feel guilty, or you don't have the time/means to get it to a standard you're happy with, I wouldn't feel bad about stripping it for parts and chalking it up to experience.
  19. So far this seems to be working, early days but not had any issues resuming since I changed that setting, good shout @Dad3353
  20. I'd have guessed it's a result of the replacement board changing the contact point of the strings.
  21. Thanks @Dad3353 I'd been through and checked if that was available for the interface but not the USB controllers, I'll give that a shot.
  22. I have a Windows 11 PC and an SSL 2 USB audio interface, which work nicely most of the time. My only issue is that sometimes (maybe 50% of the time?) when the computer wakes from standby/sleep the interface isn't detected until I unplug and reconnect it. Anyone know if there's a Windows 11 setting you can fiddle with to prevent this sort of thing? My knowledge of lower level Windows configuration is wildly out of date.
  23. What do you do once you've sobered up though
  24. I quite like that as it is, I'd be inclined to leave it as is. Fretting that board could be painful if there are any discrepancies between the markings and the actual fret positions...
