A Roland V-Bass with all the trimmings. Not quite sure why to be honest- I guess that's GAS for you.

A back rest is definitely a good investment IMO- makes listening to the wind section rehearse the same 4 bars for 20 minutes that much more bearable when you can lean back and relax.

Your nut spacing isn't related to the bridge spacing- different instruments have different degrees of taper, so you should be able to specify your nut and bridge spacing to suit you surely?

At my girlfriend's graduation a few weeks ago, while we were waiting for the ceremony to start, the Uni organist played a version of "Summertime" on the massive Glasgow Uni pipe organ (it was a hot and sticky day). That was quite fun. No idea what the chords were though!

Definitely something weird with the file- Windows Media Player doesn't like it at all. I d/led it and Foobar 2000 plays it though. During the second part of the chorus (The bit with vocals) I am playing along to the double kick drums, just doesant seem to be cutting through there.[/quote] I think this is pretty common- the only solution would be to EQ each differently so they're not competing for the same space in a mix- a lot of metal drummers use a trigger with a pretty clicky sound so their double pedal cuts through, and you can hear the bass in the low end a bit more.

Depending on the nature of the truss rod nut, a guitar tech may be able to remove and replace it- I had it done to one of my basses and it cost all of £10.

Good investment? I don't really play 4s any more...

A method for 5 string is not greatly different from that for a 4 string IMO- not enough to warrant a whole different approach. What are you looking to get from a method? Technical tips (finger placement or technique)? Ideas for lines? Something else? All of the above? I find it helps not to think of them as separate instruments, and as a result they don't require separate techniques. What you already know about bass still applies, you just have a few extra notes to play with.

Conversely, if you want to play Raining Blood with fingers I would say go 3 fingers- it will take a bit longer to get it accurate but for metal it works IMO and IME.

I'd get a [url="http://www.basslab.de"]BassLab[/url] doubleneck if I were you.

I also recall seeing a [url="http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/strip-fans,1203.html"]computer immersed in vegetable oil[/url] for cooling reasons- handy if your deep fat fryer breaks and you fancy some chips. Although I suppose that would make the whole assembly virtually unliftable.

As long as you're in tune you should be fine. I've played fretless in a metal band before- I didn't notice much sonic difference unless I did something obviously "fretlessy".
