Hey all, I've been getting a sneaking suspicion my strings are a bit too high on my DB to make it easily playable- been doing some reading on TB and it seems the height at the nut should be about a credit card's width- mine is substantially bigger than that right across the board, and it makes half position a right pain in the neck. Does anyone have experience fiddling with this? Is it something I should be able to fix myself or would I be better taking the bass in for a full setup? Also, if I do it and f*** it up, I'm assuming the nut is replaceable without having to re-do the entire fingerboard- is this correct? Thanks in advance. Kyle

I have one I bought from Finbar on here- excellent instruments, very good build quality, and the best 7 string you can get without going custom. Heavy as a really heavy thing though. PM sent re value.

Its certainly not just a gimmick- 5 string DBs have been around for a while. I have one of Bob Gollihur's Bulgarian 5 stringers and while its certainly not going to match the instrument you posted it was about one 7th of the price. It is more difficult to play but I dig having the extra low notes right there. Chris, do you use/prefer a fingered extension or a mechanical one? I tried a fingered C extension and it seemed rather impractical, for fast passages anyway. Not played a mechanical one though.

What do the stack knobs give you- 2x vols and 2x tones?

Peavey, eg the DynaBass or Grind models- good value and good Bs on the 5ers.

I finally did my Grade 5 theory last year- its a good thing to do. The "advanced" grades (6+) do get a lot more difficult though- I don't think I would shoot straight for 8 without going through the other two. You don't have to sit the exams but you have to be capable!
