1. I vote go with 5- IMO and IME the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages- you can transpose tunes, you can play with guitarists who tune down without bringing a different bass, and you can do all the stuff you can do on a normal 4! I'm currently wielding a 7 string (bass) as my main which may be overkill but if I was to use anything else it would be a 5. I wouldn't feel prepared with just 4.
2. I'm really digging the Conklin, its definitely my number 1 bass at this point. I need to work on using the top two strings more and it is cripplingly heavy to play for a long time.... but it sounds amazing. I've just scored a cheap fretless 5 in the past few weeks though and wouldn't it be awesome to have the matching pair.... There's no way I could sell that one to Mrs VK unfortunately.
3. Have you had a go on it? Is it any good? I can neither afford nor justify but I have a strange urge to buy it and rip the frets out.
4.
...so dont need more.
Lies!
5. 5- Peavey Milestone 3, Peavey DynaBass (I think) x2- fretted and fretless, Conklin Groove Tools Bill Dickens 7 string, and my 5 string DB courtesy of Bob Gollihur.
6. I really want to buy this but my girlfriend would kill me- I have one already but would like to be able to run two in series.
7. I'm reading Boss but the picture seems to be a Korg?
8. I'll have a listen to it once I get my speakers set back up but transcribing it is probably pushing it a bit for me.
9. There's a higher spec pickguard....
10. He gets extra point for the "rants" section.... "I (we) enjoy playing this giant instrument. I don’t wish I played the flute, piccolo, or clarinet.... When you see a bassist in the elevator with his bass think twice before you make some joke that all of us have heard dozens of time. You’re not the first to say it no matter how smart you think you are."
11.
Frost* - Experiments In Mass Appeal finally dropped through my letter box this morning after a major ordering screw up by the Classic Rock Society. Just getting its first blast while I should be getting on with some work.
My keyboard player was raving about these guys earlier this week- will have to check them out.
12. Just bought a Peavey fretless 5er from BassJase- came promptly, was excellently packed in in mint condition. Can't ask for more
13.
you look like an old school badass
Good selling point!
14. To stop his pedals getting sweaty?
15. I saw the tour in Glasgow- missed most of Cynic's set cos I had to work late but Opeth were phenomenal- that's the fourth time I've seen them and I think that was the best yet. Heavy! Is there any chance Cynic will do a headline tour at some point? They seemed to go down very well and I would love to see them properly.
16.
My ABM has a fan. My MAG had a fan. Do you know what a fan looks like? What do they put in the water in Jersey?
I'd just like to say thanks for that pic
17. I just ordered the new Cynic album and the new Omnium Gatherum albums from Amazon
18. This is a steal at £1250. To get a similar model from Conklin today will cost you the best part of $5000 and won't have such a nice top. I also have a Groove Tools 7 and the neck is incredibly comfortable despite the width. Anyone looking for a top notch ERB can't go wrong with this. I just wish I had the £1250
19. 40-41" is a pretty standard 3/4 string length, and should be pretty comfortable to play. There's not really a defined size for double basses but the Zellers are pretty good value. If the price is right I would go for it.
20. Where abouts in this sceptred isle are you?
21. Should probably add I bought Finbar's Conklin 7 string a while ago and completely forgot to leave any feedback- was a great transaction with a lovely chap and wouldn't hesitate to do it all over again
22. Thanks guys
23. Just sold Simwells my Boss V-Wah- absolutely spot on to deal with, very prompt payment. Top marks all round
