Hi to all,
This is my first post, so please don't be too rough!
I own, for my sins, a Spector bass, which i bought in approximately 2004 from Sound Control for about £250. I love the way it plays, looks and until recently how it sounds. I say until recently, i had a friend play some lines for me on his early '70s thunderbird and was amazed at how punchy it sounded.
Sooo… I have 2 questions; firstly what model is my Spector? It has bolt on neck, chrome hardware, passive EMG-SSD pups (with no tone pump) The finish is high gloss blue stained wood and the body doesn't seem to be exactly the same shape as the legend classic 4. The only marking on it is a serial number on the back of the headstock - 112799. The nearest picture I can find is this one Picture Any ideas? I think it might be a Performer 4 after a bit more mooching around here, would that be about right?
The next question is some pickup advice - i've had a good search around here and can't seem to find exactly what i'm after. What i would like is a neck pickup moving towards the same kinda tone as the thunderbird. I know i'm not going to get a thunderbird sound out of it - its not a thunderbird or anything close, but a bit closer / more punch / mids would be great. At the moment it sounds kind of dull and wooly in comparison. Probably not the best description sorry. The SSD's are soap bar style (i think thats what they're called) - 3.5 inches across. I don't really wanna hack into the body, well not the front anyway.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Cheers
Matius
