Howdy all.... Been thinking about joining the fretless community for a while now. Need some input from you all

I only play five string basses
Recession budget of £500~£600 tops.
Prefer to buy s/h but open to suggestions.
Light weight is a positive factor as I sometimes get 'bass players shoulder'
Will be used mainly for laid back soul / some jazz n blues / backing acoustic musicians
My main concern is the low B string sounds dull on some of the fretless 5's i've tried.
What should I go out and try......Discuss
hows the mxr bass octave compared to say a boss oc-2 or the ebs?
Hi, Having not tried either the OC2 or the EBS for any lenght of time I really can't compare for you. However, it works well for what I want it for. It definately prefers to be first in the chain. It tracks well down to about an open A string. I tend to use it much higher up though anyway, and up past G it sounds nice and tracks really well indeed. Greg

Morning, Finally got round to taking a picture of my updated board. The loop pedal doesn't usually hit the road - more for home practice. Other than that; MXR Octave> Red Onion Bypass/loop with blend> Dod Stereo Chorus (Loop)Boss Eq>MXR Q>MXR DI/Dist> Trying out the board with post and pre rack compressor at the moment. Greg

Howdy All Need to practice your Double Bass but want to be quieter and still play with the same intensity? Or has a new piece you're playing got a direction for con sordino? Sounds like you need a mute! Made of wood, this bass mute is the classic three prong style. It's designed primarily for performance muting; by attaching it to the bridge, it dampens the instrument's vibrations and results in a "softer" sound. It is attached to the top of the bridge with one "finger" between each pair of strings. Since bass bridges can vary in thickness, you may need to sand the interior surfaces of the mute, or your bridge, to ensure an appropriate fit to your instrument. The opening is about ¼ inch. I've got three Double Bass Bridge Mutes for sale is 'as new' condition, surpless to my requirements!! Only £9.00 Each Posted.

Well, in a bid to clear more room at home here's another bass of mine which requires a new loving home. Its a P Bass copy by Vintage. Its their higher quality model, in a vintage white (kinda an nice cream more so than white), with brass bridge saddles, Wilkinson Bridge and Wilkinson P Bass Pick-ups. I've retro-fitted with a nice set of Roto FLAT wound strings - Sounds GREAT!!! Condition - as new. Here's the spec and pics off the internet.... Vintage V4 Bass Series Body: Eastern Poplar Neck: Hard Maple – Bolt On Fingerboard: Rosewood Scale: 34"/864mm Frets: 20 Neck Inlays: Pearloid Dot Tuners: Wilkinson® WJBL200 Bridge: Adjustable Pickups: Wilkinson® PB x 1 (M) WPB Hardware: Chrome Controls: 1 x Volume/ 1 x Tone V4 Pickup This classic ‘split coil’ pickup design, powered by Alnico V magnets for maximum low end tone, is very much in keeping with the authentic looks and feel of this style of versatile and capable bass guitar. V4 Bridge The heart of a good bass sound lies with the string anchoring, and the V4’s bridge makes sure that’s the way it stays. Face mounted and fully adjustable, the rear loaded strings pass over the V4’s chunky brass bridge saddles for maximum bottom end tone. RRP is £179.00 Selling for £70 (POSTED IN THE UK) Please add £10 for a suitable as new gig bag or I have a as new hard case which I'd chuck in for an extra £20 - This would be better for posting to you anyway. Paypal, cheque or cash all cool. As is pick-up or trial in Eastleigh (Nr Southampton, Hampshire) Keep it low Greg

Right, chaps (and lasses). What i'm trying to do is blend a wet (with effects) signal and a direct (no affects) signal to my amp. Is there a way I can use my STEREO / Twin channel Alesis 3630 rack compressor to do this. Ideally, I'd like to compress prior to one line going to the effects pedalas, but I guess this makes it harder. I am trying to avoid using a LS2 pedal for example. There must be a way of rigging the compressor up to do this, and it would also serve the function of blending each channel on the fly mid gig for example, using the seperate channel volume controls. Does any of this make sense to anyone? Greg

When's it free - could it makes its way down south please? Thanks Greg

My first pedal I got was a DOD chorus pedal - great for a thick lush sound in slower songs For the RHCP stuff, how about an Envelope filter/flanger? Greg
