1. That's not going to be cheap, even 2nd hand. An Epi Jack Casady case, if they do one, will fit it (maybe a bit long) and will have the right badge. There have been Epi EB2s as well, so a case might actually still be available.
2.
leftyhook - they do.
Lots of my experience say otherwise. Derision for the Fender 'bent bit of tin' is just that, derision. The first thing I do now with Badass IIs fitted to anything I buy is get them off and replace with a standard BBOT. No tonal difference and the bass is immediately a half pound lighter.
3. It was called a tugbar by George Fullerton way back in the beginning.
4. See if you can find a s/h Yamaha BB415 or 425
5. <<<<<< Standard MIM P with Allparts Jazz neck, as in avatar.
6. Indeed it is. It has been dubbed "The Fox's Glacier Mint".
7.
E-A-D-G-B-E its regular tuning is one octave below 'normal' guitar, same as normal bass plus B-E
Hence its original designation by Fender as "Electric Bass Guitar" as opposed to "Electric Bass".
8. Well, this arrived yesterday fresh from the hands of our very own Andy Travis. I love it! It soulds great. But, as with all my basses, it must be reset to my liking, hence: Remove Badass II and replace with standard BBOT. Add Schaller strap=locks. Restring with TI Jazz Flats. Aaaah, that's better! I've dug out an enormously wide leather strap, and that will make the weight bearable for one set!
9. Whichever polish you use (I use Dunlop 65), use a half decent microfibre cloth to finish off. That will solve it.
10. Andy's perspex P arrived today. All arrangements a pleasure! Cheers, Den
11.
Once repaired it will be stronger than before and unlikely to break again.
Oh nononononono. My friend's LP has broken 5 or 6 times in all (yes, he could have taken more care!). There's more PVA than mahogany in that headstock. Think he's retired it now!
12. First shot: 3.65 seconds for Bass Clef Intermediate. Right off the cuff, as a non-reader in any normal sense, I'm pleased with that!
13. Up to now, I've always used a Tascam bass trainer and headphones, but I picked up on eBay for £41 delivered, an old Fender Bassman 25. That would do what you want, as well as headphones/aux also. Will even do to take to an acoustic gig with the Kingman bass.
14. Howdy Bassic, my sabbatical was a mere 17 years!
15. And to top it off, I bought Andy Travis' 14lb Plexiglas Precision! At this point, some stuff will have to go...
16.
...And when you're gigging with a bunch of other bands based in similar genres you will sound different and you will stand out. And the audience will be glad you put a bit more effort into your sound and gave their ears something different to listen to.
Luckily, we NEVER gig with any other bands. Problem solved.
17. I voted yes, but only because I switch in a Boss octave pedal for Summer of '69. Saves bothering with a 5-string or detuner. Otherwise, apart from being a dedicated wireless guy, I'm firmly in the Dr Dave camp. Also why I like Markbass amps. Nice and simple...
18. Hi Rich, welcome back! Played once at the 'village hall' in Stanley, using a Fender Malibu acoustic. After I'd done my piece (it was the Stanley Folk Club), I was informed it had gone out live on FIBS across the whole soddin' South Atlantic! Eek!
19. Welcome, from someone who's just tipped over the magic 60 (and is, irritatingly, beginning to feel every bit of it...). It's just a number. Honest. I'm still a teenager too, really. Really.
20.
I am a small woman with small hands and I play a jazz bass. It's large, cumbersome, heavy and my hands sometimes struggle to reach but I wouldn't swap, it sounds how a bass should sound to me, and providing I keep my hand in I find I can play how I want to play and it sounds the way I want it to. Can't ask for more from an instrument than that. Make what you will from the various potential innuendos provided
The correct answer - that is, if it makes the noise you want, persever unless too painful.
21. For those interested, and maybe even for Sebastian747, I just bought this from Andy, and in the process of reading the build diary, realised that the polishing solution (that is the problem of keeping it looking good, rather than the rubbing down) was sitting in front of me. It's called Greygate Plastic Polish, and was designed with Plexiglass/Lucite aircraft canopies and similar in mind. Smells a bit iffy, but will actually work well on most plastics. There's even a specially formulated version for nitrocellulose plastics also. The catch? Tends to be only available from aerospace suppliers! However, if I can find such in Okehampton, it can't be that difficult elsewhere, I'm sure!
22. My back is going to regret this... Still, I do have a very wide strap for it!
