Considering something VERY different for me, but...

At my age, looking daft is par for the course! -
Agreed. I tried one of these, and it was good, but far too heavy for me...

Oh, what the hell. Maybe I'll order the bass AND a Barefaced Super 15... -

I've bottled out. I'll go for a new rig instead, maybe a LM III and a Barefaced Super 15! -
After Christmas, I'm going to go for a Super Fifteen. It's the same size as the Big Twin T, although a few pounds lighter. I've always had a need for a 2x15, but my back and wallet could never cope. Until now!

I may well replace the speaker with something really beefy, eg a B&C 10HPL64, just so I can use it at small gigs with zero fart-out risk, so long as I don't drive it too hard, of course.

Steal.

Good luck! -
Welcome, Camille! I once had a nice Fretless Precision, back in the days when all Fenders were American !
-
...not so different that I'll throw it away after a few weeks! I'm due to collect my Air Force pension lump sum after Christmas, so I thought I'd look at the possibility of the one bass I've wanted, but could not afford - a custom Status. Now, I had my hands on a Washburn-licenced S2 clone once upon a time, and the sound was garbage, but then I dislike active basses with a passion. The playability and ergonomics, however, were a revelation! So, I've asked that nice Mr Rob Green if he'll will make me a black headless bolt-on S2 with passive P-J pickups and VVT controls. The man from Status Graphite, he say YEEEEESSSS! So, as long as I don't bottle out over the next few weeks, I'm going to go for it! Bit of a change from Precisions, no?

Bonj, Basschatters, from the back room of GAK
Telebass replied to yoseph900's topic in Introductions
Howdy! Two of my basses have come from GAK. One is still my main player, despite its neck dying a month or two ago! That's the beauty of Fenders - add new neck, et voila! Was sorry to lose the original neck, though, it was really, really nice -
Welcome!

Dunlop 'Turbo Tune' String Winders - availability.
Telebass replied to Telebass's topic in Accessories and Misc
Excellent! Strangely enough, I just ordered some D'Addario acoustic string for the setup jobs, and the three-set pack had a free basic Planet Waves winder in it - and that can also, just, handle elephant ears. Bonus! -
I'm having Firefox report BC as an attack site...
-
Greetings one and all! I've had one of these for ages. because they detach from the handle to fit an electric drill/screwdriver, they are easily the best winder. They are also the only winder I've found that really does fit a Fender bass machine head. However, they are singularly hard to get here in the UK. All the Dunlop distributors have them as 'discontiued'. Over the pond, the story is slightly different. If you buy bits from Stew-Mac, they have both colours (black and glow-in-the-dark). I have a blck one, so I ordered a glowing one! Plainly, unless you simply MUST have a glowing string winder, it works out a bit pricy with the postage, but if you order a few bits and bobs that HMRC are not going to get excited about along with it, it's not too bad. Stew-Mac are also the only place I've been able to get hold of proper Fender type string retainers. Happy winding! Has anyone plugged one into a decent efficient bass cab yet? Can the dirt be tamed enough as-is?
-
I'm looking at getting one of these and modifying the fron end for a bit less dirt, then running it through a very efficient bass cab, say a BArefaced super 12. Reckon that would do a quiet gig with no drummer, or good studio setup.
Sorry mate, but you haven't a clue.
Have to agree with the Nearly Dan man on this one...

Nice thread, have just watched some of the RBL Festival from last nigh. Bomber Command fully recognised at last, which made me feel better, if that's a way tio put it.
I know it's happened to many others, but last night was the first time in 24 years of gigging that I've recieved the dreaded 7:45pm "Where are you?" phone call. Cue a mad dash to get changed, grab the nearest bass and a Hartke combo that was much too small for the gig and get to Bristol (50 miles) as quickly as possible. I still had mud on the back of my legs from a training run and the car boot was filthy from transporting wood for bonfire night. Oh well, there had to be a first time!
My worst nightmare...hope it turned out OK!

Great one last night for The Rock 'n' Roll Outlaws, and my second full gig using a Jazz exclusively. At the Arundell Arms Hotel in Lifton, Devon. Packed! We had all the usual locals, who are a great crowd, plus some dedicated followers from as far afield as Plymouth and Ivybridge - a fair commitment in an area which has zero public transport, and would cost a couple of days' wages to get to by cab. So kudos to the drivers! All went well until the very end - the guitarit's radio pack died, but by then, his voice had gone too, so it was a good time to stop, about 30 minutes over normal. And the venue paid us a little extra too! Result!

First gig last night exclusively playing a Jazz Bass
Telebass replied to Telebass's topic in General Discussion
I've owned a few Jazzes, and many more Precisions, but this is the only time one has really spoken to me, as it were...I don't use the bridge pickup at all, so really I'm probably 'not playing a Jazz Bass' as envisioned by most, but it's working for me, and the other band guys think it sounds fine, so... But there's a sneaky part of me that''s saying, "Why have you deserted your 51RI, you traitor you!" Not that I'm listening any more! PS Could a mod move this to where it belongs, in the Bass Guitars section? Not quite sure what senior moment made me put it in this section! Ta! PPS: The gig? An even bigger belter than we thought! I love gigs like that, where it all goes well, and the roof would have come off even if we'd muffed it! -
I don't know. I would have thought that being able to play a busy bassline & sing really well would be classed as a virtuoso skill.
Exactly - even early on! Try playing and singing 'All My Loving' like he did! Hard...

Never thought I'd live to do this out of choice, but since I've had this bass, and I've tweaked it to suit, it's become my 'go-to' bass. It's a parts Jazz that I traded for with Lee - Rasta of this parish - and although it has an Allparts 'chunky' profile neck, it's just wonderful. I have a non-chunky Jazz neck on the Precision, and that too is great, but this one is just somehow special! I'll stop maundering now, and go out and play another whole gig with it! (At the Arundell Arms in Lifton, Devon, if you're interested - it'll be a belter!)
