1. Welcome! A 414 is my (just about) second bass!
2. Right, that settles that, then! Let the saving begin! Thanks for all your feedback.
3. Thinking of moving to a pair using my LMII to drive - good plan? Need to ease my back even more!
4. Two this past weekend. Friday night gig was so close to my pad I took the gear round on a sack truck. Small but well-packed pub. Went down a treat. Much too loud. Saturday in Okehampton, much larger pub, with a stage! Single 2.5 hour set, so the punters didn't decamp. Very hot! Went down a treat. Much too loud.
5. First gig for several weeks. White Hart Hotel in Launceston. Well paid, very good crowd of 250+. Boss TU2 packed up...played straight in with a clip-on Snark.
6. Like most of us, I suspect, I don't have the luxury of that much choice!
7. Welcome from another former Essex lad!
8.
Nightfly?? I'm on the "Masterpiece" fence.
Me too. Regularly stick Ruby Baby in my practice list.
9.
There's absolutely no way they are the best made and best finished basses out there, everything else is subjective I'll conceed.
This. The few times I've been inside a Ric bass, I was horrified at the low level of workmanship, especially at the price point. The designer was never the most coherent guy in the world of guitars, sadly.
10.
You know what I'd still argue that the attack from a pick played with some gusto but no big muff would suit the track better than someone with a Ricky and some dirt but tickling it finger style.
Yup, pick near the bridge and GO for it!
11. Last Saturday, big wedding in a field. Last night, social club gig in Plympton. Good sized audience, all-round successful gig.
12. Weddings/corporate : no guests, period. That's 'professional' work, if you want to put it that way.
13. Hi Paul, from a creaking 64 year old rocker from Devon!
14.
Just had a look and they are seriously cheap. Are they the same as the RS Jazz but without the silk winding?
They're RS66 nickels with no silks.
15. Way back in 2010, the Tour of britain Cycle Race started a stage here in Tavistock. To celebrate, the town centre was shut off and turned into a concert venue. There were quite a few local bands, and headlined by also-local Seth Lakeman, along with Celtic local heroes Mad Dog Mcrea. Seth actually followed us, leaving for another gig and letting Mad Dog have the final slot. I only discovered the existence of this video yesterday during idel gig-break conversation. Shows us nervously going too fast through Rockin' In The Free World, but enjoying it nonethless. Our biggest audience - 6000.
16. Tavistock Wharf all to ourselves last night, 206 tickets sold, so good crowd and good pay. 2x 75 minute sets, so good value given too. A moment of tribute for Steve Court, who ran the place for years until his death recently. Steve gave us a night at the venue once, and the rest is, as they say, history. Steve was also a friend of, and PA designer to, Pink Floyd, back in the day, so the rig at Wharf is, shall we say, pretty good! And, at 16kW, probably still too big for a 400 seater!
17. We have it to ourselves! Can't wait!

19. My 2003 P-bass is finally starting to shed its finish... Shame it doesn't wear nicely like nitro, just comes off in big chunks. Ah well, it's done a LOT of gigs.
20.
I seem to remember an ad for strings with a hot female bassest, Greta something or other who sported a green bass.
"Bass Goddess Greta", lefty, pushing GHS Bass Boomers! I remember that!
21.
Hmmm, bbot. There's that word again. I figured that it's the bent steel bridge... is it an acronym? I think bent steel bridges sound absolutely fine, by the way. (Usually.) I just happen to find tighter string spacing a lot more comfortable.
Bent Bit Of Tin - a derogatory name for an entirely adequate piece of kit.
22.
Best.
Precisely.
