1. Probably something, from Stewart MacDonald, I'm guessing. Could it be this? http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Straightedges/String_Action_Gauge.html?actn=100101&xst=3&xsr=236
2.
Funnily the guitarist in the band, and the sound engineer both really liked it, I guess it's a personal taste thing too, but perhaps they heard something I didn't........damn those 10 foot leads
Now, there's a reason to get a radio rig.
3. As described. This is drilled to fit import pots/jack, so will need easing out to fit CTS/Switchcraft ciomponents. Knobs are grub screw, universal fit. £7.50 delivered.
4.
I tend to end up using whatever is most convenient at the time - 3rd and\or 4th fingers, thumb, heel of my hand or passing cat. I'd go as far as saying that with the possible exception of actually 'knowing where the notes are', muting is probably the most important technique going and one that is only given cursory acknowledgement as it's not at all exciting...
Yup, all this.
5. Here we have my Lite Ash Tele. Doesn't get played, so... Excellent condition, some marking on bass side of neck, mostly polished out. There are some tiny dings, too small to see mostly, but there is a mark on the upper horn. Natural, birdseye maple neck/fingerboard, abalone dots. Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro II pickups set (standard on this model). Has had a USA-style swich fitted, and an Electrosocket jack cup and Switchcraft jack. Originals available if required. The Lite Ash series is Made In Korea. Looking at £225.00 inc case, delivered! Bargain! Let the fun begin! PS Kettle not for sale!
6. Two sets, little or no use. One set, bright and shiny, are the original style. SOLD The other set, rather more tarnished, are the 'dual design' type, with buttons that can be used conventionally without the locks. Check photo for the difference! The screws are non-original, but have been machined to fit correctly. £10.00 a set, delivered
7. One set of used, perfect condition Schaller BMFL tuners in chrome. There are no screws or bushings with them, hence £25 delivered. These are a vintage-correct fit, apart from the name stamp, for Fenders made from 1976 until 1982, during which time they were the suppliers to Fender. Any questions, please ask! Note: if your bitsa P or J has a Harrier neck, or similar with slightly downsized headstock, neither these, nor Wilkinson HWJB200s will fit - the headstock is too small and the plates overhang the edges. For these necks, use Mexican/Highway 1 style tuners, or ultra light style tuners as per current Fender USA of Hipshot.
8. Right, restrung with TI Jazz Flats (what else on a Jazz?) and seems really nice. Low action little buzzing, not much adjustment needed. Great! One point to note: the headstock on this brand of neck is slightly too small to take vintage-plate tuners, such as Schaller BMFL or Wilkinson HWJB200, so I'll have to stick with these for now - wanted to go back to chrome all over!. However, Hipshot Ultralites or similar will be perfect. I'll put the Wilkinsons I bought for it on the MIM P, as they are even more correct looking than the Schaller BMFLs on there now. And yes, I did do the chores first!
9. Just received Rob's Bitsa Jazz - beautifully packed! Many thanks!
10. Bought this from Shockwave: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/177423-sold-parts-jazz/page__hl__parts%20jazz And I have to say, I am very impressed! The neck is lovely and plays well. Once I've done the chores, will sit down and give it a good playing!
11.
The formula is: Enough basses = n + 1, where n is the number of basses you currently own.
This too!
12.
Telebass - can you explain this concept of "enough" please? I still have rooms in my house without a bass
Ah, well, that's a context I haven't explored, even after 40 years +... Now, let me see...
13.
I've never needed more sustain than even the shittiest bass could provide.
+1 And even when I NEED some sustain, a MIM P, BBOT and some TI Jazz Flats has all that I need and more...
14. I'll give this a bump! Nothing worse than discourtesy!
15.
Well I went into my local music shop the other day ,and the owner who usually stands behind the counter looking at his computer screen and more or less ignores me and when I ask for anything just briefly takes eyes off the screen to point to where it is well he actually said good morning and smiled at me when I went in , he did have a rep with him though who was showing him his stock on his I pad ! Could of pushed me over with a feather ' thought I was in the wrong shop!!
I'm pretty sure I know where THAT shop is...
16. Lee is the new owner of my Yamaha BB425, and the transaction could not have been better. Top marks! Many thanks, Lee.
