1. Now, ain't that odd? On my '51, there's 3/4 of an inch clear beyond the nut on the E., with all the other silks dead level about 3/4 inch below the string retainer... Have these on all three basses. Cost a packet for a five-string set!
2.
We've had that conversation recently. That might have been Leo's intention (point taken from whoever made it so eloquently), but no it isn't, not any more. Its function in a band is nothing to to with that of a guitar, and physically you can't play it like one. It's an electric bass so get used to it!
Correct! Not a member of the guitar family, so there, Anthony Jackson! Fender VI, six strings, EADGBE, explicitly says 'Bass Guitar' on the4 headstock. On a Jazz Bass, it states 'Electric Bass'. However, there was always going to be debate about this, mainly due to what had to be written in satisfying the patent lawyers... My pet hate? Pedants like me!
3. Another nod for Yamaha - recently got a BB425, and it's great!
4. Never had any problem with/without contours...use each interchangeably...
5. Ooh, get you! Really, I needed a 5er with a fairly slim front-to-back neck profile and these fit the bill. And they do take after the good ole P-bass!
6. I don't like: well, anything bar Fender Precisions, really! Not even Jazz Basses to any great degree. I do have a (small) soft spot for original shape Yamaha BBs, and fortunately that shape still exists in the current series (because I have one!), but there were one or two 'BB's that looked entirely different...
7. Welcome David, anything you need to know, it's in here somewhere!
8. Welcome, from another old 'un!
9. Hi Tom, used to have a pretty rare Kramer Focus 88 in blonde - wish I still did! Simple bass, but effective!
