1. Now, that's what I call an impulse purchase!
2. It has some gigging time on it now, but it looks like not being used for the rock 3-piece - somehow, the Fender works better for that. But for the sort-of-folky band and the Fleetwood Mac tribute, it looks like just the ticket!
3. HAve used them once on-line - no problems - and have been to the Oxford shop a few times, again, no problems. Always helpful, even though I've not yet purchased anything from them.
4. Certainly looks to be an American Standard/Series serial number/date clarifies which series it is.
5. Couldn't agree more! Very impressed.
6. And the more I play it, the better it gets! Why did I not do this before?
7.
yawn,as RhysP said earlier "same old sh*te"
That's as maybe, but without this same old sh*te, there wouldn't be any other old sh*te, now would there?
8. Right, here goes: First off, I have to say how impressed I am with the feel and playability, right out of the box. Quality is pretty good, although there is a slight gap in the treble side of the neck pocket. I had to do some nut work to accomodate the humongous B of a set of JF345 Jazz Flats, but that's hardly the fault of the bass! It was quite awkward getting the string mounted at the bridge end, too. However, it's not like they're going to need changing every 10 minutes... Took it to a rehearsal (still with the original rounds on), and all were pleased with what it could do, so basically a big hit all round. I nearly swapped my 51RI for a 424, I was so impressed, but the 51 stays, even if it only ever hangs on the wall. I may yet get a 424, however! I also invested in a decent case, a Hiscox STD-EBS Liteflite Here's some pics. In the case: That HUGE B string Neck pocket gap Final verdict? Love it! Den
9. Got this yesterday, online purchase from GAK after not being able to source one locally. I was after a relatively inexpensive 5er, preferably with Fender on the headstock, but I had tried one of these a few months back, in Trgao Mills of all places, and was quite impressed. Build quality is very good. Sounds are even better! Needs some flats, though, and a set of JF345s is on its way from Thomann (none in the UK anywhere..). Trying it out properly at rehearsal tonight, will post some more, with pics, over the next day or two! Den EDIT: A basic pic to show what I'm on about: http://www.alangrego...ass_Guitar.html
10. Nah! Great big wide, flat, 1.75 inch ones! Now possibly traded!
11. Nice! But can't imagine why the stock pickup needed replacing. Apart from the overwind, where's the advantage? Correct about the bridge cover. Looks dim that way, but did take the mute off the strings. No mute? Gotta be better the right way round... Lovely basses though, Someone buy it! And mine too!
12. Just got the 425 an hour ago - now I really, really want the 4! Wanna swap for a 51RI P?
13. Hi WB, afraid not - not my thing at all, I'm afraid! Hell of an iconic bass, though! Having received the Yamaha BB425, about an hour ago, the 424 is now what I'm after, despite it having a Jazz-width nut (but not a Jazz-depth neck!).
14. Many thanks. Bumpage also for new pics and other original post editing.
15. Cheers, Chris! Note to all: see amended trades on original post. Den
16. Oh, I wasn't upset, each to his owm! C necks forever!
17. Still tempted, but not sure...the fiver is on its way!
18.
*horrified*
Why? Nothing special about Jazz necks, let's face it. Suits some, not others!
19. Not interested in a 51RI Precision, by any chance?
20. Still the best bass I have, hands down. Just the extra 1lb means it's no longer giggable. To be honest, Mickey, if it doesn't sell, I'll not be too unhappy. Maybe I should bump the Squier Telebass off its perch and use this as the practice bass, which I do sitting down anyway...then I can keep it in all good conscience!
21. Standard Fender, then. Good.
