Another vote for TI Jazz Flats. Don't use anything else now.
They are not cheap, but if you like them, you'll be playing them for years if you look after them.

Nowt wrong with MIM Ps. Mines comfortably done 400 gigs, and has one of the best necks I've ever played on ANY bass....
Also bought new from GAK, sight unseen.
What works is what works, even if that's completely different for every bassist. there is no right or wrong way to be prescribed.
Basic knowledge says to warm your hands up a bit in some way, especially in cold weather.
How you do it? However you like.
