1.
The Jazz doesn't bother me, but I draw the line at all those bloody banjos.
This. So very much this!
2. Saturday headline at small private festival in Lifton, Devon. Got on late, 10pm, and played unbroken until 1. Great crowd, much fun had! But a bit knackering! Sound guy impressed with Markbass CMD121H which was extended with a supplied GK 4x10, and impressed with the new strings too. He's a bassist, of course!
3. Indeed, far too new to throw away! But not remotely impolite enough any more for rock...;
4. Have had these on for a couple of weeks now, and played two gigs with them. Packaging: standard Ernie sealed pack with paper individual sleeves inside. Nice to see a diagram included of the best way to wrap them on install. I needed to tweak the truss rod about an eighth of a turn tighter from a set of TI Jazz flats, so these are pretty low tension, though nowhere near as floppy seeming as TIs. Like a lot of flats, they felt a little sticky at first, but this soon passes. Very roundwound sounding, although not as zingy as brand-new rounds. Verdict: my new string of choice.
5. Welcome! I've always hankered after a passive, twin-P pickup S2 headless...one day, one day...
6. Another visit to the town of Roche in Cornwall, this time at the Rock Inn, rather appropriate. Good night, more bookings, and also possible bookings elsewhere, near Bodmin and possibly in Exmouth! Good night's work, and the new Ernie Cobalt flats were great - review to follow!
7.
Agreed. What I also like about Dave's cables is that they buck the modern trend for built-in obsolescence or the intention to be superseded by later, 'better' models, and literally last a lifetime of trouble-free, top class performance.
Exactly. The sort of kit you'd expect to be labelled 'military grade'.
8. Yup, if a Herc breaks, email them. They'll ask for pics, then send you a new one!
9. And well within budget, too, for s/h. Not that far out for new, if you can still find one.
10. Or if you don't mind a slight deviation from the Fender norm - a Yamaha BB424.
11. Welcome! Lots of knowledge, inspiration, and ways to lighten your wallet - they all reside here!
12. Welcome! Take all you want, we were all there once. That's the great thing about this forum, loads of freely available knowledge!
13. If I include non-musical freebies, then a week in Zermatt, all expenses, with goodies like helicopter rides thrown in. Fancy hotel, Swiss Rail card, you name it. Worth a lot of money. Courtesy of Alpen!
14.
Amps? For the use of the bands? Blimey, the studio we use has electric light and a Dimplex heater. And that's it.
This is my fundamental experience of 'rehearsal space'. Occasionally small PA, ie about 100W max. Which is entirely adequate.
15. Just fitted a set of 40-95s to my favourite P-bass. First impressions: very nice! They replaced a 3-year old set of TI Jazz Flats and no adjustment was required to the truss rod. Will tinker some more, play a gig, then write a full review.
16. I'm definitely on this slippery slope, but it ain't too steep yet...
17. Brand new Warwick The Alien fretted 4...a lot of bass for absolutely nowt.
18. Friday night at Callington Social Club. Thought it was going to be a bit empty, but by the time we got going, we had a proper crowd, and a good gig! Well paid, and a re-book, so all-round good gig. Last tw gigs I've had to beg a lift due to car problems. That's now fixed, so I can go back to wafting myself around.
19. Welcome! Can't beat a good P-bass!
20. Private party. Was, quite literally, a pissed up in a brewery! Entirely successful gig, likelihood of more bookings gained, and as a trio too! Downside: car is knackered, so we did the 'real' band thing in a borrowed van. This morning I feel as if run over by a truck! Another week to get my Merc back...
