Howdy! from *just* over the border...
If you're good, you'll get a following. It doesn't matter who wrote the tunes.
That's the point. We've done a good job here at the Wharf in Tavistock, and that's no freebie. And another two there this year. You don't get people paying seven or eight quid a pop going to see something that's in some way s**t, now do ya?
Totally with you mate. The track that defines it for me - and to a certain extent defines my perfect bass tone - is the intro to Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd, such a full and bassy tone, yet sweet and articulate. I'm off to the studio to listen to it now in fact
+1!
I love the tone that John Mc Vie gets on "Rumours" especially "Go Your Own Way" and "Dreams" I think he used an Alembic around that time.
Yes, he did. However, I'm doing it all with flats on a Precision, and it's close. I've no idea what strings he used. More research needed!
This is disgraceful! Not only do you not want to avoid playing the same old chestnuts that everyone else does, you are actually looking to replicate it on purpose! A covers band tribute band!! I'm off to slash my wrists PS sorry, krispn. I am obliged by reputation to feign outrage.
Absolute magic!

Cool, hope to see you there!

Done well out of Lemonrock. More than worth it, IMHO. It was originally thet South West Gig Guide, so there is a certain amount of natural leaning toward that area. However, my time on their forum shows me that it has a good set of adherents around the Home Counties too.

Finally got round to joining a decent forum!

Howdy Jake, great intro! -
3 months on and we have another gig tomorrow with a 32 song set. We have had 3 drummers, the current one is only a dep and a new second guitarist who literally fills any silence with constant, pointless and annoying twiddling. He is a pretty sh*t so is obviously trying to prove something... cant solo and is really disorganised. I cant see him staying with us for long... That begin said, the drummer is an ex pro, is awesome, drives the dynamics brilliantly and we are doing everything we can to convince him to make it a permanent arrangement. All in all I am looking forward to it, here is the set now... Beautiful Day Heavyweight Champ Monster Have a Nice Day Wonderwall Creep Use Somebody Pretty f***ed Up 59 Sound Cant Get Enough 20th Centry Boy Get Back Bohemian Like You I Fought The Law Sweet Home Alabama Use Somebody Don’t You Forget About With or Without You Good Riddance Morning Glory Disco 2000 Mustang Sally Gimme Some Lovin Long Train Running Lets Spend Night Tog You Really Got Me Summer of 69 Sex on Fire Johnny B Goode Run Wanted Dead or Alive Dakota
Good set list, something for everyone. Good luck with the people thing, and hope your drummer decides to stay, because, boy, are they hard to find...
I'm playing my first gig in a few weeks time...rather nervous. from the video's it looks like you done really well, i'll be terrified incase anything goes wrong people seem to be saying 8 rehearsal's isn't that much...which isn't helping the fact that by the time of my first gig we'l only have rehearsed 5 times....it's a metal band so luckily the drummer problem won't be there lol
While we all very experienced giggers, we put The Fleetwood MAc Experience out to its first gig with 6 rehearsals, so 8 is pretty reasonable if you have a good grasp of what you want to do. That being so, you'll do just fine. And you'll be itching for number two to happen soon as well!

Totally agree!
Doing covers/tributes is turning to the dark side, but until you try you don't realise how much fun it can be. My wallet is a LOT happier for me doing them too.
No dark side at all. Ask any orchestra! Music is music is music. Take your pick! I do agree with Bilbo on one point, though, and need to follow it through: LEARN TO READ MUSIC!
My condolences, Darth Telebass
It does help put bread on the table, so... And it IS fun!

Live at The Post Office Inn, Plympton, Devon, on 8th April!
-
And another gig already!

Of course, as time goes by, I'll have to get someone to donate a grey ponytail to sew into my baseball cap...
-
Fortunately for them, no!

Many years using Rotbass 40s (nickel Swing Bass with no silk) and I've never had a bad set. As all my basses were strung with them, and all in use, I got through quite a lot of 'em! All good. The only thing I did not like about Rotosound was when they stopped making Superwound 505s. Best bass string ever. Contact core pressurewounds. Great on any type of bass, fretted or fretless, easy on fingers and frets. If they re-introduced them, I'd even dump my TI Jazz flats to change back. Their local rep, Roger Channing, is always good and knowledgeable. Also a fount of knowledge and experience of playing in tribute bands (Upbeat Beatles, and damned good they are too). And when he was on leave once, Jason visited instead! Great team of people.

Good point - song list up! That's the set list we used. Of course, after 'Songbird', they would not let us go off without doing 'The Chain' again!

Last night (Sunday 20th March) was the first outing for The Fleetwood Mac Experience. We crammed this 6-piece into a small pub in Plympton, Plymouth, and hoped people would respond to the promotion and come an dhave a look. It was essentially done as a self-promotional freebie, no fee from the pub. Well, we must have done something right! Place was rammed, we pulled it off well, and so much went over the bar that we got £250 for our trouble! A good start, or what? Mucho pleased! PS: Anyone on here with a very long memory might recall that I started on this road nearly 5 years ago - some bands just take longer to put together!
