2. He plays Fodera basses, more or less exclusively, I think. And he plays banjo, too, apparently...
3. No, I'd still rather have a Hiscox Litflite...and I could have two for that price.
4.
A shame when someone accepts the challenge to act like a professional then behaves like an amateur. A feather in caps though to those who take a 'show must go on' attitude and do the job they were employed to do. Grace under pressure - good on you all.
I too have take some exception to this common misuse of the word 'amateur'. In a great many fields of life, they are the true masters of their art because, as the word says, they do it for the love of it. The truest amateurs are in fact, nearly always, the most professional of all. Would have been better to use something like, erm, I dunno..."d*ckhead", maybe?
5. Doesn't sound a pleasant place to be...hope something works out.
6. and if I'm not mistaken, it is pretty similar to a std Jazz...
7. My first experience of Yes was the line-up before Steve Howe - they were trying to fix a Telecaster on the counter at Rose-Morris while I was trying to buy strings... THEN...heard and bought the Yes Album, then saw them at the Dagenham Roundhouse, 69/70 time. Brilliant.
8. Jean-Luc nails it...
9. Be grateful for any opportunity you get. Covers, originals - it's simply irrelevant. Just play!
10. Also, on the subject of neck differences, remember that most Precisions have a nut width of 1.625". The Jazz is 1.5". The Jazz is only very slighly different to the P in that the taper is different. If you have smaller hands, and spend most of your time above the 5th fret, you're not going to notice much difference. The Precisions that have the 1.75" nut width do feel considerably chunkier than a Jazz, but they are less common. Then there are the oddballs, like the Squier in my sig, which is half way between the two...
11. Talk to Wizard Pickups - he'll have no trouble winding you the right size pair, and you'll have handwound pickups for a good price. Wizard

13. Rotosound Rotobass 40-100s rounds: cheap, last me plenty long enough (>6 months a set), and unsilked, which looks better IMO. TI Jazz Flats on the split-coil Precision - wondrous noise and soooo comfy! +1 for 'should have been checkboxes...

17. The neck profile was a big surprise to me when I got it from Mickeyboro. We did a sight-unseen trade, the other bass being a Warwick Streamer Std 5. I hoped it would be a bit slimmer than my Sting, and it was - a lot! In fact, having fondled it again with this point in mind, I'm a-gonna keep it. As I said above, it's become a bit of a trade-mark:- "Rock 'n' Roll Outlaws bass player? You mean the old geezer with the yellow bass?"
18. Will post pics ASAP, but here goes: MIJ 1996 - by serial and '50th Anniversary' decal on rear of headstock. Pale blond, not butterscotch/mustardy colour of later versions. Is fitted with bridge and pickup covers and raw maple tug bar, made for me by John at Bravewood Guitars. Neck is much more akin, profile-wise, to an early 60s P, not the baseball bats like my Sting had, for example. Very easy to play. 'B' idth, and a little deeper front-to-back, than my MIM split-coil (which is very slim indeed). Electronics are stock except capacitor changed to Sprague Orange Drop - opened the sound out a bit. Marks/blemishes: either side of the neck pocket, there's a small laquer crack, ther when I got it. There's a slim scratch on the neck plate, not a big deal. Otherwise, it just about pristine. I take huge pains to avoid buckle rash. There's none. It has most assuredly been gigged! But I look after my kit. You would not think it had been out of the house, just nicely looked after for fourteen years. (Mickeyboro of these hallowed portals was its owner before me, so history before 2006 might be got from him). It lives in a Warwick Rockbag, included. OK, what do I want for it? £550 plus any postage/courier costs. Might do a straight trade for an equally good nick Oly White/Rosewood/Tort split-coil. Any info needed, just PM. I'll try and get pics up by the end of today. Cheers, Den

Hey there

Just enjoy it! You too could still be gigging whilst within shouting distance of your old age pension!
20. If you go back to earlier in this thread, you'll see that I mentioned this inapprpropriate downrating problem. I only ever saw qualified electricians do this. However, it was earlier in the history of PAT testing. Example: MD's desktop PC with PSU rated around 500W - sparky fits a 3 amp fuse. Next morning, muggins gets a call from the MD wanting an explanation as to why his PC doesn't work...I had to recheck everything the sparks done the day before, and I had to change a LOT of fuses. Hopefully, by this time, they've learnt to get it right...
21. Welcome! Bass-playing frontperson? Go fer it! Wish I could do more than backing vox... Edit: And unless ye be WonderWoman, or have BIG hairy mates, you'd be well advised to stay off the SVT route... (So says old, knackered, and much surgically abused bassist).
