1. Wot, no one between Bristle an' Penzance?
2. Howdy, from West...England!
3. IMHO, there little tonally between any of them. On guitars, it seems to make more of a difference. My choice? Maple. Although I take one of each out to every gig! For me, the look of the Single Coil P Bass is simply 'it'.
4. Leaving God out of this for the moment, on an instrument where the strings are pretty close to being the same gauge, the bridge can be straight - classical guitar, for example. So gauges is the right answer. Another example is if you use contact-core strings. Again, the saddles can be almost lined up, because it's the thickness over the bridge that counts, not the gauge overall.
5. A lot of fun! Catgut...groan...
6. Welcome! We'll have giving up the g**tar in no time!
7. Howdy, from another former Essex lad!
8. Howdy!
9. Howdy, have a beer for me!
10. From reading this thread, just writing it down for us lot has pretty much sorted the problem. And always remember, the muso who doesn't make mistakes has yet to be born... Rock On! The feedback seemed pretty good for the gig.
11. On't other 'and maybe it should then be called the FAR South West Bass Bash! On a more realistic note, Taunton would be about right, I reckon.
12. Chepstow not SW... Shaftesbury not SW... Faaaar as Oi'm consarned, ought beyond Devon b'aint SW... So let's have the Bash right in the middle of the SW - in Plymouth!
13. Welcome form Cornwall (just), and another vote for the Hofner!
14. Welcome!
15. I looked hopefully at this, and then discovered that I don't know, maybe even have never heard, a single song on the list - not one! OK, I have Jagged Little Pill somewhere, but that's about it... *sigh* Getting old...
16. How did I miss this? Welcome, from only just inside Cornwall - from someone from Essex!
17. I'm going to be available at this time due to a hiatus in our bands' work, due to guitarist becoming a dad and wanting some musical paternity leave. I'm happy to travel anywhere, so long as remuneration is sensible and leaves me reasonably in pocket after expenses. I do mainly classic rock at the moment but can do other genres. Wouldn't mind some work with acoustic guitars, for example. I play four-string basses exclusively at the moment. I have a 500W Markbass rig that should cater for most needs. I can do some backing vox if I know the songs, or have time to learn. If I can be of use, PM me and I'll take it from there! Cheers, Dennis
18. Precisley. Why do they look cooler than a decent repro od the same instrument? If you don't know it's a repro, there no ability to judge the 'cool' effectively. And, whatever anyone says, they DID NOT make them any better then than now, 'then' being and era you care to name. They made them differently, for a start. But not better.
19. Welcome! The Epi will be fine, but try others as well. Or an electro-acoustic bass perhaps?
20. Howdy!
21. Welcome! Nice to see those Squier Telebasses getting around! I had one of the very first. Great bass, although generally used as a standby. Edit: And slightly less muddy if you rewire to a parallel humbucker.
22. Howdy, from not too far away from Devon - around 800 metres, in fact!
23. Welcome back!
