  2. You will not, and cannot, get the same sound as a Jazz out of a Precision. The only way to do that is to install two Jazz pickups. Which means you might as well use the Jazz... Any good P pickup ought to do the job of sounding like a P. And why is output such a big deaal when you have the SABDDI there do sort out the level? They are different animals, and there's little you can do to make them the same. A P with a jazz bridge pickup comes close, probably the best of both worlds if you must use a a Precision Bass. I'm not a fan of actives in any way, so can't help there. As far as I'm concerned, signal levels that high are best generated inside the amp, not smacked into the input socket. Which is why I don'tuse a SABDDI either...if you have a good amp, you don't need one, except for overdrive.

    New here!

L/H side looking north! Where are you in Devon?
  4. After all these years playing, doing my first proper on-stage type gig at The Wharf in Tavistock. We played a blinder, the crowd was great, and we even got paid pretty well! 2nd gig there was nearly as successful, but not as much fun, for no reason I can yet understand...we certainly didn't play as well, but the crowd certainly was as good and supportive, so result!
  5. Since replying to this, I'm already drooling over a natural maple fretless Precision. Oh, my aching wallet...

    Alright!

That's not nice hot chocolate, no sir... Welcome!
  7. Welcome! Plenty to see and do on here. And waaaay to much to buy...*sigh*

    New here!

Welcome! R'n'R stardom never ENTIRELY passes you by, even if only at a local level!
  9. Well, it didn't stabilise. Now I've added a spacer, clamped it into a backbow, then tightened the rod. Now I just wait and see...
  10. I do tend to do both. However, we're a three-piece and I sing BVs, so I have little choice but to engage with the audience to some extent, and that's good, because of all what Oldgit said. My natural style, however, is neck gazing. To some extent, that's because I'm so happy to be able to do this, and I LIKE seeing myself doing it, as it were... Cripes, I'm even doing it over there <<<
  11. Howdy Pepone, love that Oly White Precision! But then I'm a bit of a sucker for a nice P-bass!
  12. Welcome! *grumblegrumblegrumble*
  13. Bass > Samson radio > Boss TU-2 > Boss OC-3 > Amp. The OC-3 is strictly for when I need to go below E for a whole 1 song...
  14. Welcome, Kyriakos! Way back, '77 to '79, I lived (and played!) in Cyprus, when I was in the Royal Air Force. This was in the days before Paphos even had a decent road leading to it, never mind an airport! Enjoyed Cyprus, a very nice place.

    Aup.

    Welcome! Find the time!
  16. Also, your RCD won't have any effect whatsoever on the quality of your power feed - it's just a safety trip. Unless you're using something way more complex than a basic RCD...And, although it may sound wrong, if you are using a power conditioner, this can sometimes do horrible things to your sound. They tend to work fine for guitar amps and the like, but the instantaneous current demands of a high power bass amp can be interfered with. This is why, for bass amps, it's always ideal to plug your amp (and your RCD) straight into the wall socket if at all possible, using the heaviest mains cable you can. I'm assuming amps of 500W output or more; lesser output powers will be affected less. I'll admit, I thought this was garbage, but switched to a heavy, hand-built (by me) mains lead. On gigs where you're winding it up a bit, it does seem to keep things smoother!
  17. If the BBs used the same butt-end adjuster as the old RB series I had, then a standard Gibson truss rod key fits perfectly. Shouldn't be hard to get hold of.
  18. "Me: 50 something, have played for 35 years, currently in loud covers/function/party band with attitude." Welcome from someone who sounds just like me! I'm in Calstock - where are you?
  19. Welcome! Bass not my cup of tea either, but a long way from hideous!
