1. Welcome!
2. Well, my £4 Yamaha must be the least expensive bass here that wasn't a gift!
3. Way too early yet. If anything like the VMs, it might be 6 - 8 months. Hopefully not, though...
4. I like blasting away to Classical Gas, some Carpenters (Joe Osborn!), allsorts I've never otherwise played in a live setting. Very educational it can be, too. What about you?
5. You wanna play? So play! Doesn't matter what the gig is if you want to do it. If it's reasonably fun, and you don't do it, someone else will, and he/she'll be getting what might have been YOUR money!
6.
Sadly I have my parents down who would not cope with it otherwise I would have been keen. How is the shoulder shaping up?
Pretty well, should be fine!

Hello

Welcome!
10. Whatever, I'll be having me one of those!
11. Welcome!
12. Ah, another P-bass man! Welcome! Don't know enough Skynyrd yet, despite pumping out SHA for many years!
13. That's it at the end of the day. If you had to make a living with only one bass, this is the one most would choose.
14. Above all, it's supposed to be enjoyable! Don't panic too much, whatever happens, and HAVE FUN!
15. "but to say that nothing good or new has come out in the last 40+ years is not accurate." Indeed, and I didn't say it. But what has come out, all of it almost, is evolutionary, very little being revolutionary. And there's always the KISS principle - what isn't there can't go wrong! I will be straight up and say that actives for me sound awful - a step away from whatever natural tone the bass might have, and a failure point (not to mention that active tone control was only ever a part of that - the primary reason Alembic did it at first was to drive the cable, reducing high-end loss). Others disagree, no problems. I just have yet to play a bass that, all round, is as good as a Fender P. Vigier necks for instance, are wondrous! So I'd like a 20-fret one stuck on my P-bass, please. Can't get one, of course. So stick with the Big F it is, then. At the end of the day, it's what suits each player. But as the thread starter said, Precisions are great all-rounders, and will be for decades to come, very likely.
16. "1 single coil pickup in the wrong place and it's missing a fret." OK, some like the extra fret. But it's not a single coil pickup, unless a pre-57 type like that one <<<<. Also, a beefed up bridge means very little. I've yet to hear any bridge improve on it, or even make any difference... A lot of people dislike them, I think, because they see them as 'plain vanilla'. The point about them is that they were so right, straight off the drawing board, even the early true single coils. All else stems from the P-bass, and very few basses have done more than tweak it, really.

19. Welcome!
20. Welcome! Nothing wrong with Squiers!
21. My '75 Precision. first decent bass I ever had, mine from new... My '68 Jazz...although it was a dog, really, and for it, I got... My '69 Telecaster Bass - sheer madness to let that go. My '81 Precision Fretless - bad decision, but led to... My Tokai Hard Puncher, which was brilliant, but after which I gave up for 17 years... Quite a lot, really!
22. Welcome! Where in Devon are you?
