1. My MIM P is the lightest P I've ever felt, including one or two P Bass Lytes! But I've not personally held a basswood MIJ/CIJ, so cannot say on that score...
2. Welcome! Glad you chose us first!
3. Get a good Precision and play it. All the punch anybody will ever need. And a BAII has only an even chance at best of making any difference at all. Depends on the bass, not the bridge, IMHO.
4.
Indeed. Any of you guys ever seen a Theorbo? 14 or more strings. Between 6 and 8 fretted, typical scale length 30 - 32 inches. The remainder 52 inch unfretted. Bass and Tenor register. Fabulous things.
Check out page 17 of "How the Fender Bass Changed The World", for a glorious 6-string fretted upright, circa 1701. As the author, Jim Roberts, says, "And you probably thought it was Anthony Jackson's idea...".
5. MArshall don't go out looking for bass sales in any big way, becausde it is simply not what they are good at. This was told to me by our rep. It's a second string at best, they are never going to bother with trying to get into it any more than they are, because they'd simply never catch up. VBA is great for old school rock, but little else IMHO, and weighs far too much to be bothered with. MB stuff is lighter, but I played through the biggest MB and 8x10 cab the other night at a MArshall Roadshow, and was not impressed at all. And the Roadshow was ALL about the guitar amps. Bass didn't get a mention, literally, except to acknowledge that they actually made some bass amps. No demos at all.
6. I'm sure the XLR could be put to this use. You cannot mess with the tweeter, but the VLE filter lets you get that sound anyway, so no issue there. Or get the Jeff Berlin sig combo, which doesn't have one, plus it's a 15", so is likely more the sound you're looking for anyway. It's certainly loud enough! Used my CMD121H for quite a while now. Wouldn't ever go anywhere else for my amps. And of course, they weigh next to nothing. The CMD121H is 40lbs, 6.5 of which is the amp head, and 4 of which is a 400W RMS speaker! Amazing!
7. New basses have one overwhelming advantage - all the mojo will be YOURS.
8. Quote Dood "What would have happened if the original stand up basses had six strings to start with???" They did. And frets too...
9. Just get a proper P, common or not. There's no substitute for the real thing. At all.
10. Howdy! MIM P bass is my main player too.
11. Well, my first answer to this problem is - learn to drive. Then you can get to both bands and students. While I'll freely admit to being a crusty old pedant, it's one of my rules never to join any band, or recruit any member, who doesn't have their own wheels. No-one, regardless of talent, should be a burden to the band. And if everyone has wheels, you've got more options when someone's has broken down. Don't sell, it would be a waste of your talent.
12. Howdy! You'll soon be back at it, never fear!

Hello All

Welcome! If you can, get hold of a Tascam bass trainer (CD or mp3 types available) and a decent set of cans, and hours of (to others!) silent practice is yours for the taking. In between nappies, that is...
14. Welcome! Always good to see more P-bass players! I love 'em! ...The P-basses, that is!
15. Howdy! Long, long ago, I lived in Swaziland for a year, around 70/71. Loved the whole place, RSA too.
