1. Lack of space and other circumstances mean I must thin my herd of reference books, so... All books in very good to excellent nick except where stated. All prices include 2nd Class postage. Original edition of The Bass Book £12.50 An interesting look through a great many American basses, with input from some good luthiers. £12.50 Good book on Martin acoustics, not quite up to modern times, but still very informative. £10.00 Happy with PayPal gift or bank transfer. Hit me with any questions via PM. Aythangew...
2. When I use rounds, I use Rotobass 40s. Great value, good sounding strings. Now though, I use only flats, and my experience of 34" RS77s was awful. No tone, massive tension.Chromes are way more elastic, and of course TIs even more so. So, Rounds = Rotosound, Flats = just about anything else.
3. As everyone else has focused on the body wood...the bridge ought to be similar.
4.
Low budget Yammies. Every one of them bats out of its league.
My experience also.
5. 4-string. No more complex than a passive PJ setup, electrically. Nut width around 40mm, between P and J. A bass realisation of the KISS principal, in other words... In other words, I like what's in my sig. Maple board if possible, but not really worried if not.
6.
If I put a gold anodised scratch plate on my jazz, will stop it humming under fluorescent strip lights.....lol!
No. It MIGHT reduce it a bit...The only way to stop hum on a Jazz is to have both pickups at the same output (eg fully up), in which state they are a humbucking pair, or retrofit proper hum-cancelling pickups, which may, of course, alter the tone somewhat. Shielding the cavities can also help. Shielding AND the metal plate might just be pretty effective also.
7.
I'll be going again next year, and saving up so I can spend my money on stuff I clearly don't need, just really really want.
This!
8. Got this in a trade, but can't make use of it, so... Good condition, and I'll throw in a power supply as well. Price includes postage, Paypal gift or bank transfer OK.
9. Good basic gig-bag tuner. Price includes postage. Paypal gift or bank transfer OK. NOW £6.50
10. Bose OE (On-ear) folding headphones. These are simply amazing for their size. New earpads, two new cables, headband a little tatty, hence [s]£60[/s] £50, delivered. (Edit: these are NOT noise cancelling). Happy with Paypal gift or bank transfer.
11. Sennheiser HD212 or 202 for use with Tascam box for practice (never use amp at home). SkullCandy Hesh 2s for use on the move with phone (they have a mic).
12.
The Psychology Of GAS How many people of this parish are actually better players than the gear they already have and need better/more expensive gear?
Assuming good setup, the quality of even low-end gear makes this scenario almost impossible today. Almost... I'm no better than anyone else when it comes to GAS, but put a stop to it by deciding what I needed to do the job, and leaving it at that. However... I DO need new IEMs...
13.
I much prefer "bassist" or "bass player" to "bass guitarist" I know bass is shaped and played similar to a guitar but that's where the similarity ends. They are completely different instruments, fulfilling different roles and requiring a very different skill set and musical approach. Despite what the uninitiated may think, we do not just play the same as the guitar an octave lower...
Precisely, it's a guitar-like bass, it's not a guitar. So bassist or bass player it is.
14. I have a bitsa P and a BB414. That's really all the instrumental variety I can handle. For making it louder, I have a Markbass CMD121H, and a Markbass Traveler 151P if I need the full 500W. As far as I am concerned, that's all I can justify, and it's all I want. I WILL get a more expensive BB at some point, but then the 414 will go. I had several more basses and amps not too long ago. They were just taking up space and money for no reason, so off they went. If I can ever justify more, then I'll have more. Just nothing right now...
15. How did I miss this? Soldering, pickups, setups, help with building anything Fender-style. Dartmoor/SW Devon/SE Cornwall Den
