1. Use a tuning fork occasionally. If something is off after that, time to check intonation. Particularly on 6-string g**tar.
2. This would be my favourite colour if I wanted a rosewood board Precision. Lovely!
3. Bass delayed until next Tuesday! Aaarrrggghhh!
4.
Not me, although I used to have a Yamaha BJ5B which was the modern 5-string version and the rarest of all the versions with there being only 50 made. IIRC it was Paul from Arrowhead Guitars who was on a mission to try and buy every version in every colour...
Ah, I remember! Getting intetested in Yamahas now I have one incoming. Remember seeing these in an old Selmer catalogue from around 1970 ish.
5.
I don't know why you'd scratch off the pat numbers, either. Maybe they're just Photoshopped out for some weird reason..? Still no idea why, though. And yes, there should be a black plastic pad under the neck plate. But the neck plate itself looks right. 1976 was the year the serial number moved from the neck plate to the headstock and the logo changed to a different typeface. But early 1976 P Basses had this type-C 'TV' logo and the 'F' serial number neck plate - mine does, and that's definitely a 1976.
My 75 had new logo WITHOUT serial, E side thumb rest, neckplate with serial, black gasket. Never say never with Fender.
6. I've used the 121H for 9 years now. Although it is that bit bigger, it's worth having. The horn is better than the tweeter, if that's relevant, and the bigger cab gives a bit more beef to the liw end. Still a one-hander at 39lb. I stand it on a 151p Traveler when I need the full 500W. Great rig.
7. The Rock 'n' Roll Outlaws folded last Christmas, but such is the fanbase, we have a one-off NYE reunion at The Wharf in Tavy. Two 90-minute sets (our idea). If it sells out, which is very likely, we'll end up with a minimum of £500 each, and it will be a bonkers night, guaranteed!
8. Ah, how I miss the RBX250 I had for a short while. Definitely "one that got away"! Crazy not to keep it, it only cost me £4! Welcome!
9. I was going to say, I'm sure someone on here had loads of these once!
10.
With respect, that's absolute rubbish. Nobody does everything well. If that's what you're saying, I think the possibility of seeing him try to solo like Stu Hamm or play in a progressive band like Tool, or slap like Mark King would be enough to dispel the thought that he can do everything well as I'd imagine it'd be a bit car crash. He does several things in the terms of playing well like most of us. But nobody, does everything "well." Not McCartney, Pastorious, Clarke, Jamerson, Entwistle, King or any other iconic bass player you can name can do everything well. They have their niche areas in which they excel (or not dependent on whether you like their style or even their music), but nobody is all things. McCartney isn't any different in that respect. I happen to like his playing, before anyone asks.
I think Blue meant that everything he did/does, he did/does well, not that he can do everything, ever...
11.
Love his stuff. It was McCartney more than anyone else that taught me to pay more attention to note choice and note length than tone. After years of messing around with different basses, amps, effects, etc, I heard my first isolated Macca line... fat, dead, dull... and perfect! Jameson on is the same. It became clear to me at that point that what you're playing on and what you're playing through is almost irrelevant compared to what you're playing.
Not possible to state this more accurately!
12. Another +1 for GAK, online service AND in person.
13. Yup, build one. My well worn MIM Precision now wears an all-maple American Special Jazz neck, courtesy of the Stratosphere on Ebay. Not cheap, but oh, so worth it!
14. Most of these instruments I could never live with, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the workmanship on show. Stunning!
15. A while back, I did see some pictures of a custom telebass built for Neil Young's bassist, called Cinnamon Gurl. Man, that was a a pretty thing, a hunk of swirly wood I could actually live with! This:
16. Have had Raslee's Squier Jazz for a bit now, but, apart from the great neck, it's...a Jazz. It's gotta go! So I've arranged a swap for a Yamaha BB414. Pics as soon as...
