2. This one has 3 out of 4 Hipshot HB7s fitted - no idea why not the full set, will have to try and find one! It's a 2011 model, and has definitely seen plenty of playing despite being in great nick. Will get a couple of pics up ASAP!
3. I have owned a few Jazzes: 68 ( an absolute dog), 2003 MIM Sunburst, very nice, 2006 MIM white, also very nice, 2012 American Special, would have kept this except for financial stress, and now a Squier VM 70s J, which is pretty astounding. I'm a Precision player through and through, although small hands and, lately, arthritis, mean that that my Precision wears an American Special Jazz neck. So in reality, I'm stuck somewhere in the middle...
4. Got this in a trade with Raslee of this parish. My intention was to gut it and put the neck and loom into a P-bass, body for which was also part of the deal. But before the carnage, I gave it tweak to my preference (normally for a P-bass), and it is just amazing! So I shall, for the moment, become a member of the One Of Each club... This is really NOT Dennis territory. At all.
5.
Those Alien Basses always sounded better in New York.
*Groan*
6. A P bass with flats. Job done. As I'm now using in just such a project.
7. And it's gone!
8. Like any acoustic bass guitar, it depends what you want to hear. They are very nice basses, all, even the top of the range, now made in China. The very earliest were actually handbuilt by Lakewood for Warwick, and were apparently very loud, utterly amazing, and humongously expensive. The current version will, like almost an other ABG, hold its own with a quiet acoustic guitar or two, but beyond that will need an amp. Mine was The Alien fretted four and was very nice ( and free, too!), but for my ABG needs was outclassed in every way by a £300 Fender Kingman. Not that the Kingman was necessarily better, it just suited ME better...
9. Remember winning an expensive Warwick Alien a while back, when the email arrived saying,"Congratulations, you have won...", it got deleted...then I went back and checked it out and it was real! Nice feeling!
10. If I had the spare cash...
11. Just not using this, so want to trade for a four-string backup, either a Squier Precision of some sort, or a Yamaha BB424, or anything precision-ish. Whadaya got?
12.
Exactly that. There are many more musicians out there who just pick up something that works and makes the sound they want, then gig it for years without any further thought. Generally these are not the same people who spend time on bass forums.
Exactly.
13. Having gone through a fair bit of gear, I simply sat down a few months back and thought, what do I NEED? And do I actually WANT anything more? As the gloop inside my head was being honest with itself ( for once...), I simply decided to strip back to basics. The Markbass kit isn't cheap, but that's as exotic as it gets. One bass is a good Fender bitsa, the other a Squier P5. That's it. Given that this kit dies all that I need, I won't be buying more. Unless loads of dosh suddenly appears. Then I'll get something from the Fender Custom Shop or Limelight!
14.
I am a recent convert to P'dom, and have 2;a JHS Tony Butler signature(Black/Black/Maple)which wears flats, and an Aria STB(Burst/White/Rosewood)carrying rounds. The JHS is a middly soundingbeast, and the Aria has'nt even got to rehearsals yet,but it has tons of acoustic resonance for a cheapy. After years of playing a Status I am finding that a P does it all,and as I play in a country rock band it is the most fitting of all basses. Gas wise,I would like a 7/8 size P body in black,a maple J neck with blocks and binding in black,a tort guard and a 2 band eq active/passive pup set up,and lightweight tuners. All for £500 or less!
Buy a Squier VM Fretless Precision and a VM 70s Jazz. Swap the necks. Tada! Sell off the remaining bits to fund the active eq. Not 7/8 size, but will weigh 8lb or less. Job done!
15. Ah, but works for the small-handed! I'd kerp it and modify a Classic 50s Precision, but I can't afford one!
