2.
On the subject of expensive v cheap, I'd just add that the cheapest instruments tend to have equally low budget electronics (whether passive or more so in active) and signal to noise ratio is 'generally' less of a problem on better quality instruments.
On a correctly wired Precision, for example, the quality of the components will have zero effect on s/n ratio. Components just aren't that bad. Actives, maybe. Anither reason not to bother with actives. Cheap components might affect the tone, however. But these days? Less likely than in the past. I no longer bother to swap out Squier wiring unless I manage to break something. I can't hear any difference. If others can, fine, but no audience ever will. We really do obsess way too much about this stuff. Some of these designs really are just about unimprovable. They're too simple to need complex thinking! Just play it...
3. My main bass has been a MIM P for most of the past 11 years. It was always good. However, the wonderful neck went bad. Now it wears an American Special Jazz neck, and is as playable as anything I've ever picked up. It has a USA pickup, but it never sounded any different with it, so I never bothered to swap it back.
4. Run To You. Nobody ever seemed to realise how inappropriate it was...
5. Never had anything but great service from GAK, either on-line or in person. Highly recommended.
6. Jeez, no south west venues - I'm out.

8.
So you've only just begun..?
Now, where have I heard that one before... Must have been someone close to me... Maybe it's you?
9. On USA Telebasses or 51 reissues, you can fit a variety of Fender bridges without mods. Also a Badass 3 if you can find one. These MAY also fit the Squier, but I've not tried it.
10. The trick as always with a jazz bass is to keep the volumes at equal levels. When set equally, the set as a whole is humbucking (or should be if wired right). Either pickup soloed produces the most hum. Additionally check around you for sources of excessive mains noise, fluorescent lighting, anything with a motor in it, old CRT pc monitors, etc.
11. I have Fender bitsa P and a Squier bitsa P. They are both superb and do what I want. I happily gig either one.
12.
Reggae is easy; play less and never go above the fourth fret. What is interesting is that almost all of the above posts reference difficulties with techniques that are practically useless Fopr instance, I don't slap particularly well and double thumbing is weak. The reason for this is primarily that, whilst the techniques in question undoubtedly turn heads, I DON'T LIKE THE MUSIC THAT IS PLAYED USING THEM AND NEVER PLAY THE MUSIC THAT IS PLAYED USING THEM. So, in short, the techniques are of no real use to me. Hence, I do not practice them, hence, I am not very good at them. When I was a fledgling bass player, I learned lots of the required party pieces that use odd techniques (5G by Jeff Berlin, Schooldays by Stanley Clarke, Motherlode by Berlin, Country Music by Stu Hamm etc). I also learned to play Pat Metheny's 'Are You Going With Me' as a two-handed extravaganza. As I moved on, however, I realised that these techniques are pretty much peripheral to the world of music making. I suspect the above list of 'difficulties' reflects that fact that most of the things we have 'difficulties' with are not bass playing but party tricks.
Absolutely this.
13.
I've never seen a Ritter that I didn't think was utterly hideous, and that, I'm afraid, is no exception. Rita for me, no contest. Except, sadly, she's not even half my age, and knowing how much the things go for, I'd reluctantly take the Ritter, flog it,and buy something I do want-like a Shuker JJ Burnel Carbonlite.
This. Sorry Rita!
14. Installed briefly in my Squier P5, but made little difference (to my ears), so no sense in keeping it. Price includes postage. NOW [s]£50[/s] £45!
