1.
I kind of like it washed-out sonic blue!
Yup. If it's rosewood, then Sonic Blue it must be. All other colours shall have maple boards. It is written.
2. 2004 MIM P with '94 USA pickup and American Special Jazz neck. TI JF344 Jazz Flats. 2014 Squier VM Fretless Precision, neck replaced with VM77 Jazz neck. SD SBP-2 pickup. ECB-81 Chromes. 2014 Squier VM P5. USA pickup, soon to be returned to stock as it's no improvement. Hipshot HB7 lollipops. ECB81-5 Chromes. Everything I need. Nothing I don't.
3. Most jazz...a great deal of it seems to be musical masturbation - look how much I can do with the rules of music, melody, and harmony. Except a great deal of it is not musical, melodious, or harmonious. Metal. Turgid riffery for its own sake. Rap/hiphop - garbage. Yes, I'm well into the older end of the old fart spectrum. Getting there has taught me to like what I like and, largely, disregard everything else. On the other hand, I'm surprised by a few things I like now - Alison Krauss, for example. As a prog-head in the past, it would not have been on my radar at all. Now, it's almost anything prog-like that is off the radar...and I'm starting a Carpenters tribute!
4. Thought I'd never see one in the UK, but there's a pretty good one on Facebook's UK Bass Market page. Not too pricey either, at 750. No affiliation!
5. Perhaps "multi-scale fretless" describes it more accurately. I would describe it as "ugh".
6. Decided I'd indulge in something much needed - sleep!
7. Sat in hotel with bass and Tascam trainer and I find I've forgotten me bleedin' 'eadphones...
8. Hercules. No other is trusted with my bass. And if ever a fault occurs, they get it sorted.
9. In other news, just one. A Precision, with flats, just mess with the tone knob. Works for me.
10.
I take 3 basses with me for doing the KB stuff - and that's just one artist (tribute), a P strung with ancient flats, a J strung with fresh and tight rounds, and a fretless. Id love to be able to do it all on just one bass, but its just not possible for the range of tones I need to emulate. One day id liketo try an upright too
Well, it just so happens... But would you want to use it with CB?
11. Hard to see how Bryan Ferry can top the support act. They are ridiculously good.
12. Just putting together a Carpenters tribute. A very difficult task, getting a good singer, and needing two keys players.
13. Lots of Carpenters for my new tribute project. Joe Osborn rules!
14. Yes. That is all.
15. Horrified to hear of a 500W bass amp using only jacks. Unsound design. This was precisely why Speakons were designed, to properly carry heavy current. Despite being a Fender fanboi, this is an amp not worth considering for that alone, IMHO...Glad it sounds ok though!
16. BBC World Service. Or silence.
17. For mine, I knew which neck I wanted - an American Special Jazz neck. One trip to ebay store The Stratosphere later, it was on its way. But it probably cost as much as an American Standard by the time it got to me... However, it's one of my two dream basses, and the other is a Squier bitsa!
18. If budget is tight, do what I did. Get Squier VM Fretless Precision and sell neck. Get Precision neck of choice and fit. The fretless Ps seem to be made of fresh air, still sound fine.
