  1. ^^^ Been heading this way on one or two occasions. Then I just stopped, realised what it was I needed, and settled on that. Two jazz-necked Ps, a P5, and a Kingman acoustic. The Kingman is hardly ever used, probably going to be gone soon. Even the DB is probably going to be on its way in the not-too-distant future...
  2. I've used Markbass since 2006, when I got my CMD121H 1x12 combo.I used it for years in rock with a 1x12 extension. It took everything I threw at it. Then relegated to backup for a Little Mark III and Barefaced Super 15. Now the rock is gone, I've put the LMIII into the combo, and keep the original combo head as a spare. Should I ever need to ramp back up to the full 500W, I will buy the matching Traveler 121H cab for a vertical 2x12 rig. I'm unlikely ever to go anywhere else for my loudness!
  3. I'm not suggesting all-valve doesn't sound good. It does. But not enough to outweigh (pun intended!) the weight disadvantage. If I didn't have to carry it, I'd be using valves. Not least because I'm a valve trained electronics tech. They're relatively easy to work with. Only the weight is a gigging problem.
  4. Frankly, the best thing to do is go SS. IMHO, the difference valves make, be it a hybrid or all-valve, is unpleasantness for hybrids and too much weight for all-valve. Unless you have a roadie.
  5. Always remember to check out British numbering for these things. If you're up for splashing out on this type of valve, look out for Mullard ECC83 also.

  8. CDs and mp3s: on the PC via a set of old Yamaha YST-MS30s. CDs: via the video player through another set of the Yamahas. Brilliant sounding speakers. In the loft somewhere is a 70s mid-range HiFi by Bush Arena (built in Denmark, B&O?), with a Garrard Sp25 MkIII deck. It was given to me and I've never used it because I can't find a new stylus. The cartridge is a Goldring Lenco, but has no model number. One day I hope to replace it, and play what little vinyl I have left. Also, if I can source appropriate converter cables (OBBM?), I'll add a separate CD player.

[/quote] Although I'm happy playing in covers bands, I agree that you should try and replicate pretty closely. Punters may not be musical very often, but they know, sometimes forensically, how their favourite choons go. What REALLY hacks me off is people putting whole extra musical interludes in the middle of things.

  16. I don't care that I play the same bass as everyone else. If that's what makes the sound in my head, so be it. I have modified my Precisions to my taste, but not much. Best sounding AND best looking bass for me. Nothing else comes close. True-blue Fender-head and happy with it!
  17. Judith Owen, Ebb and Flow. Nice music, best backing band in the world. Seeing her and them (and going as much for them as her!) in Totnes on March 7th.
