I've owned three post-2001 US Jazzes (a four string Deluxe, a five string Deluxe, and the 2012 Standard which is currently my main squeeze).
To me, this is the main point. Fenders are vastly more consistent in their quality than they were. That there's some dogs around is due to sheer quantity rather than poor QC. The Mexican P I've played since 2004 blew my 75 into the weeds, with ease. The bitsa twins that I play now are just amazing. But, if you don't like ' em, you don't.
Each has had exemplary build quality (I've owned Sadowskys too) and a lot of newer features (graphite rods in the neck, body stringing option, better bridges, better pups) that I really like. Compared to a lot of 70s Js, they've been better built, better equipped and more consistent.
