2. Can recommend Sennheiser hd 212Pro, hd 202 or 203, all similar. Very light, no worries with a 5er, and not too pricey. Used them for years.
3.
I've had mine a couple of months and I love it, Im playing it much more than my other basses (it's got a lovely neck) I've been tempted to get a Nordstrand pickup but there's nothing really wrong with the stock. maybe a new wiring loom and i love the idea of getting a gold anodised pick guard made by the bass doc as mines the sunburst the only thing I did do was put on some La Bella low tension flats and has schaller straplocks.
Same here, except Chromes. Didn't see a need to mess with the electrics. In fact, my advice to others would be to leave it stock. It's simply a very good bass in its own right.
4.
Pedant alert. You don't take a kettle to the gig, you take an amplifier, the power cable for that is called an IEC http://www.techopedia.com/definition/25237/iec-connector Kettle leads have inserts in the shape usually that prevent them being used on other things like amplifiers. You can buy some very nice very flexible 240v mains cable and fit it to an IEC connector if you like. http://www.canford.co.uk/Products/33-351_FLEXIBLE-MAINS-3-core-2.5-sq.mm-Black-rubber Just don't bring the kettle.
This too.
5.
Stumbled across these guys.....best Rush tribute I have seen (plus a Geddy/Peart hybrid!) http://youtu.be/8UuucKOhR1Y
I'm no Rush fan, but thought that was pretty darn good.
6. Starting to put acoustic duo together this week. Will hopefully be not many weeks until gigging!
7. Remember to steal the neck if you like that but not the sound. It's the way to go! (J necked P, that is, not theft!)
8. I've got a version of the Studiospares tester (difference: mine's yellow), and am very happy with it.
9. I paid 246 in GAK. Price has dropped since.
10. If enough people get a pop at this, maybe they'll reintroduce it!
11.
Is it squire vm p5?
yup
12. And sounds pretty good, too. However, the improvement is less than I imagined it might be. The original pickup is not a ceramic bar; it has magnet slugs, so may be alnico. Measures 9k dc resistance compared to 10.1k for the Fender. As a side comment, the electrics in this were beautiful, shielded cavity, good soldering. Impressive.

14. Now that I've given up playing in loud bands (to save what little's left if my hearing), I've learned the techniques if playing really lightly and letting the amp do the job. It means I've been able to get the action on the basses down to almost nothing. Which in turn helps with fast runs. Which requires an even softer touch! I don't doubt that this will be hard to translate into a live situation, but it's so nice to play. Before this, ET's "it'll do" worked just fine!
15.
I'm tempted to try and get a p bass 5ers squire vm.does anyone have one?
Yes. Good!
16. I've got a bitsa made from everything Fender I like. Based on that, I'd be looking at the American Specials. Necks are amazing if you like slim.
17.
I use flatwounds of one kind or another and I only ever change them if I get a new bass or if I want to try a different string. No strings get thrown away they just move between storage box and bass as and when I fancy it.
This.
