1. The standard round heel will fit ok. It's when putting Tele bass necks on standard Precisions etc (a la Tim Bogert) that you need to get the chisels out...
2. On the longer drives, say back from somewhere in Cornwall, then even on the dual carriageway, I'll set the cruise to 60 and just drift home listening to the BBC World Service. No rush, very peaceful, next to zero traffic. I'm missing things like this. I MUST restart my gigging life! Not to mention needing the money...
3. I'm really missing posting on this thread...
4. Nice cab...
5. Hercules, for everything.
6. Exactly what Bluejay said. Have two 4s, one with ECB81 Chromes, the other with TI 344 Jazz Flats. P5 has ECB81-5 Chromes. Will change the Chromes to ECB84s when needed, as I find that the D and G are noticeably to stiffer on the 81 sets. If you want easy and good - sounding, grit your teeth and your wallet and get the TIs. They're cheaper, really, as you won't have to change them for 5+ years if you look after them!
7. I take it all back. Rabbie was right!
8. Oh, and by the way, I take back all I said elsewhere about the lack of difference between 1/2 and 3/4. Even on these two cheapies, the difference is very very obvious!
9. As above, I find it strangely easier to play than the 1/2...The action could be better (as Raslee will attest, the 1/2 is very good in this respect), but the sound is huge by comparison, even with my limited knowledge of how to extract anything from it! It is altogether a more impressive beast. I cannot as yet fit the pickup I got from Lee, as the bridge wing slots are much wider than the 1/2. However, I will get it set up with EP Weichs, and an adjustable bridge if funds allow. At that point, I can also get hold of some maple slivers to allow me to fit the pickup and preamp - unless the new bridge fits better!
10. This ^^^^
11. It's certainly a more commanding prescence sonically and visulally!
12. Rick's list nails it - I have them all!
13. I use two bitsas. Both are Precisions, both have Jazz necks. Both sound like a Precision should, with the bonus of wonderfully slim shallow necks. They're not really Fenders or Squiers, they're mine. They work. Job done.
14. Different here, Blue. Unless you're a really awful band, closing time is when they are baying for it the most. RRO's closers: Whole Lotta Rosie, and if needed, Freebird, if not done already.
15. Definitely one of those can't-stop-grinning evenings!
16. No, all-ply, but it sounds louder and better than the G4M 1/2, by a long way. Definitely needs new strings. Despite it being a proper 104cm 3/4, I am already finding the intonation easier...weird...
17. It's a Carlo Giordano SB120EW - possibly a hybrid. At the price I paid, I don't rightly care!
18. Back in about an hour!
19.
You forgot to mention that it has a capped maple neck, the only bass in the Fender range with this neck construction since the '66 slab Precisions.
All American Standard, Deluxe, Special, and even the Mexican Standard- all maple fbs are caps, even the ones with skunk stripes. There have been other random examples since the 60s. The earliest Telecaster Basses in 68 were also caps.
20. Doesn't give the right impression of its impressiveness! Glad you're liking the sound!
21. Pork Pie Hat acquired! Just need to get the appropriate gig picture!
