1. Yup, no worries for Chromes down this-a-way. Having said that, got the last two sets from Wunjos...Next set will be online!
2. One Samson Q7 in case with clip and stand adaptor, good condition. £17.50 delivered. [s]One Shure SM58, all-round good condition. £40.00 delivered.[/s]
3. All-round best answer? Merc E Class estate. If you can get 07 on, then cheap to run also. Diesel, that is...
4.
This question (or similar) often crops up and always baffles me - am I the only one who never plugs in at home? I can happily play along to CDs or MP3s either through quiet speakers or in one ear on headphones.
I never do either. Use a Tascam bass trainer and good cans (Sennheiser). Edit: the TU88 looks good too!
5.
10 out of 10, would read again
Me too, classic!
6. The Wharf are already wheedling about next Christmas - guess they just finished counting the bar takings!
7. Last RRO gig - end of an era. Still seems odd 24 hours later...
8. Doing 2x90 minutes tonight as the bands' grand finale!
9. Well, I've had quite a few offers, although not much that floats my boat. Even had two or three offers using DB, which I can't even play yet! Something a little quieter - my hearing is shot as it is!
10. It's the final gig for The Rock n Roll Outlaws tonight. Nearly eight gig-filled years! Where does the time go? We've had the Tavistock Wharf sold out for many weeks for this gig, and at a 70/30 split, that will be a fabulous gig and a nice payday! Really going for this - even raised my fitness and lowered my weight! And I'll need it - we're doing two 90-minute sets! Don't suppose I'll be in any fit state to do much tomorrow...
11.
You are totally right, don't move just now until you find out if you are going to play it seriously, there's no need just now. But when you do, you will have to go 3/4. Strings are not an "only", they are a double bass player obsession and one of the most important ingredients of finding your sound.
I was trying to say that if I got on well with it, there's no need to change. Just because it's a 1/2 doesn't mean it's of no serious use. Strings are less easy to source, but not impossible. The smallest 3/4 and the largest 1/2 are just about the same size, so saying one *must* have this or that size is really about as useful as saying that if you're a pro electric player you *must* play a Fender. Which of course, you must!
12. My band of nearly 8 years plays its final gig this Saturday, 20th December. As by far the oldest member (61 3/4), it is AUTOMATICALLY assumed that the band is finishing because I am retiring. Really pisses me off...
13. Similarly, I see no grand reason to move from the 1/2 size I'm learning on. The actual difference is negligible. In fact, the only downside so far is the lesser availability of strings...
14. It's also important to remember that a Precision has a humbucking pickup. I've found that quite often, either the pickup output wiring is wrong, on one pickup segment is back to front. Correcting that alone can sonetimes eliminate all noise, even with no cavity shielding.
15. We're more excited than you are!
16. In very good condition. Has a few small marks around the upper headstock edge, consistent with a couple of hundred well-looked-after gigs. Fret wear minimal, only used with flats. Precision logo is on top of the clear coat, so easy to polish out if required. Tuners are Wilkinson HWJB200, very good hardware they are too. String tree is Fender. Profile is 70s, so not too slim front-to-back, but not massively chunky either. This will be available as soon as its replacement arrives from the USA and I've crow-barred it out of HMRC's grasping mitts. Black Precision body not included! 17. Exactly. So hard to find people who want to gig more than once a week. Ive advertised, and get people answering the ad still saying they don't want to gig more than once or twice a week (or sometimes a month!). To which the answer was, "why are you talking to me, then?" D'oh...
