1. Sounds good to me. Will chase those up.
2.
It's pretty horrific, isn't it? I just keep telling myself, at least it's not Comic Sans...
That's what I thought when I was featured!
3. Because it makes for easier chording. Then again, classical guitars are essentially flat also.
4. Final private gig for The Rock n Roll Outlaws on Saturday, 30th birthday party in mid Devon. Down to a 3-piece (the way I like it), and a bit empty at first as all the guests were getting drinks, yakking, etc, but got going nicely, and wanting us to carry on all night as usual by the end! Still not sure why the band leader wants to kill this - great fun AND a money spinner. Ah well...
5.
Wow I never thought of that. Hmm I shall look into it.. Where did you get yours from? Looks so natural! Yes the VM P5's are cracking basses. But out of all the things we can get gas for, at least these are realistically attainable. I thought I'd take a punt on this "cheaper" Squier until I could afford a "proper" Fender P5. Really don't see the point in spending all that extra cash now. It feels great (after a good set up and DR Lowriders fitted - killer B string now) and sounds like a good Precision. Job done! Go for it, you know it makes sense!
I've had one now for a few months. Excellent bass, and I too see little point in paying lots more for a Fender which only has Posiflex rods as a major difference. PS Chromes on mine.
6. Consists of keyboard, PSU, driver CD, and a bunch of cables including a separate MIDI/USB interface. Free to collector!
7. Spring for the postage (£3.90) and they're yours.
8. I've had my Super 15 for some time now. It has done many gigs. The handles are fine. It took me 6 years of even heavier gigging to damage the identical handle on my Markbass CMD 121H. However, you lot damaging and moaning about yours means Alex had a spare I could put on the MB, for another years-long run of heavy use! How DO you damage them? And the S15 is at the heaviest level of BF, at 49lb.
9. LMIII into a Super 15. Earth-mover!
10. Stop hitting it that hard!
11. Oh dear...
12. Hi Pete, there isn't one for any platform, just a good mobile version of the site. And that will certainly work with Windows phones.
13. Hmmm, lots to discover! The Spirocores ( for no particular readon I can think of!) are what's on my mind so far... Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming!
14. Although the strings will cost me almost as much as the bass, I'm looking at getting either Spirocore or Pirazzi weichs. Scale is 98.5cm/38.75", so is that tension the correct choice? Action is approx 3.5mm G and 5mm E at the end of the fingerboard - how does that sound? Many thanks for your patience with n00b questions! Den
15. Why change it? It won't make the slightest difference. Other than visually, of course.
16. Why worry choosing which? Build your own with the best bits of each. For me, that's Precisions with Jazz necks. Job done.
17. Thanks! Have noodled for an hour or two... If I try the correct lh shape, my hand is too small. By some distance. Anyhoo, getting a sound out of it. Would probably benefit from new strings - E and A are quite a bit deader than D and G. Post is in right place, bridge also, so what's a good set of 1/2 size strings?
18. Ta-da!
19. Finally got the 1/2 size from Raslee of this parish (my delay, not his!). All I can say is: I gonna be asking a LOT of questions! And I can't stop grinning!
20. It sure felt like it. Band finishes December 20th, so no more!
21.
I have nothing useful to add, but when I read the subject of the post I thought to myself "depends on how desperate you need to go" My thought was: 20 pence if it's a nice toilet... Sorry.
22.
Are we talking the Fender Standard MIM? There are some cracking basses coming from the Mexican factory, including the RoadWorn and Classic series. Standard MIM's (as someone said above) are in my experience, not really all that much better than the Squier CV series, if at all. I would certainly rather buy the CV and save a couple hundred if it was my money. I sold my 2005 USA P bass because it felt hard, cold and I was unable to properly connect with it. It was an awesome instrument, but my Roadworn just felt more organic- that old cliche of 'it was like an extension of me' or 'it plays itself'. I didn't get that from the US, although it felt more precision crafted. I guess in summary the USA felt like it had been built by robots, and the Roadworn by an old dude with magic in his hands. My JV series feels like a bit of both, which is nice. USA instruments are definitely better, but when there are such good deals to be hand second hand why would you consider anything else? £600 for a second hand USA in the current marketplace is a no-brainer.
Good post. But no Fender, ever, was built by an old dude with magic in his hands.
23. Depending on when funds become available, I'm keen on the cab, if you'll split and post it! Will keep you in the loop!
24. The Clays Beer Festival at Roche, Cornwall. Bands from 2pm, us headlining at 10. Nice big stage, great crowd, rotten sound. On stage, there was nothing audible except sub-bass boom from the floor tom and kick. Despite this, we managed to give everyone nearly two unbroken hours of classic rock. The band's final gig in Cornwall.
