1. Went for some strings, nothing more. But still a thoroughly enjoyable visit, as always. Doesn't matter how casual the visit, these guys now how to treat their customers. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Well done, Tom and the crew!
2. Bartelby, IME, almost ANY flats have more compliance than those. You could tow a car with tge E string. ..
3. I'm about to put a set of Chromes on my Squier P5. Never used them before, so looking forward to seeing how they sound! I have flats on everything. TI JF344s on the two P4s, Fenders on the Kingman. The Chromes on the P5 will replace the stock rounds. I find it really hard to play on rounds now - too uncomfortable!
4. I'd love an American Special Jazz neck to put on my Squier Telebass. ..will now, having thought if it, have to start saving the pennies to give to that nice stratosphere man on ebay...
5. Standard fender spacing as far as I'm aware, around 18mm.
6. I have a MIM with '94 American Standard pickups. Couldn't hear any difference when I fitted them.
7. Fender Precision Standard MIM 2003 Squier bitsa P 2014 (main bass) Squier P5 2014 Squier Telebass 2007 Fender Kingman SCE acoustic. Not a single NON-Fender-like bass anywhere...
8. Fender Precision Standard MIM 2003 Squier bitsa P 2014 (main bass) Squier P5 2014 Squier Telebass 2007 Fender Kingman SCE acoustic. Not a single NON-Fender-like bass anywhere...
9. Probably learnt to play by flipping a righty bass!
10. The factory making these VMs in Indonesia is doing an amazing job with the necks. The VM77 neck on my bitsa P and the neck on my new P5 are amazing by ANY standards, let alone entry level. *shakes head in disbelief*
11.
I wouldn't say I'm moody... Mrs C says things like 'morally disengaged' and 'unempathhic' when she's telling me what's wrong with my personality...
I am so...this!
12. I'm loving this bass. Lovely low action, sounds great, not too heavy. Would definitely benefit from some Hipshot Ultralights. But then, all my basses would!
13. I've spent 40+ years keeping that big F on my headstock. And that was probably fine. But my two main basses are now Squiers, aP/J hybrid and a P5. The Fender P is the backup...And very good it is too, but the hybrid smokes it. Has uograded tuners and pickup, all else is stock. Nowt wrong with cheap these days. However, as Blue says, back in the day, it wasn't quite such an easy choice.
14. Have done one rehearsal with it so far. My wrist noticed it, but we were at it for 5 hours! Picking up the main 4-string, the neck feels like a toothpick! Proper standing-up audition/rehearsal tonight with a blues band!
15. I'll be doing this to all three of my Ps as funds allow. It will take the sunburst 4 down to 6.5 pounds, the 5 down to 8.4. My shoulder is drooling at the prospect!
16. I'm out of the running now, but someone has posted in Wanted for a 121h, IIRC.
