1. Utterly cool thread - nice one, Andy!
2.
Well this is probably the sweetest voice I have heard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuglvdPZ-JU
Easily the best.
3. I guarantee that no one has ever detected any flex in a Fender BBOT. For the fairly simple reason is that it isn't a bent bit of tin. With the heaviest strings possible, you might tear it off the bass. If strung through, that would no longer be possible.
4. The only difference i can see is that you do not need a substantial bridge, because the bridge is doing none of the work in anchoring the string. To me, that explains the lightweight bridge of the earliest Precisions. That's all that was needed. And Leo NEVER did more than was needed.
5. Well, once more I've been at them all with the screwdrivers. It's costing me a fortune in TI JAzz flats... Everything is now back to stock. So Now I have a stock American Special Jazz, a stock Squier VM Fretless Precision (okay, new pickup...), and as near to stock as I can 2003/4 MIM Precision, the Old Faithful. And then I found I liked the Jazz. I don't like Jazz Basses. I've come to adore the A neck, but just never liked the look or tone of the thing. be that as it may, I've found myself gigging this damed thing and liking it! Except for one thing. I prefer the old tone circuit to the Greasebucket. The reason for the post, quite possibly silly: should I mod the Greasebucket out? And if so, what would be a good tone cap? Any of you have favourites? Or should I simply stick to the vintage values? Please help this Precision bloke who's teeth-gritting conversion to the Jazz is causing LOTS of pain. And joy!
6. Great NYE gig on home turf at the Mary Tavy Inn. 3 solid hours broken by 25 minutes for midnight. Phew! Happy New Year, one and all!
7. May need a setup like this for a project. Any thoughts? Definitely flats, but I can't detune TI Jazz Flats that far and have them sound reasonable.
8. All mine are essentially parts basses now. My main one consists of a Squier VM body and an Allparts maple black blocks neck. It's sunburst with tort and fitted with an SD SPB-2 pickup. It weighs just under 7lbs and sounds great. Following closely is my old faithful 2003/4 MIM P body, wearing an American Special Jazz neck. Maple/black/black. They both do what they are supposed to and I never have any complaints about the sound!
9. My gig was great, but rather wet. In a marquee at this time of year, in this weather = much drippiness...
10.
If that's what I have to own to be 'not boring' I'll take the label and my jazz bass any day...
Ditto, except Precision!
11.
My GP says it's an ulnar nerve issue but doesn't seem willing to offer a solution
Then you need a new GP, not just a new bass!
12.
Excellent, good to hear. Nothing quite like a huge success, is there? I'm envious because I was hoping our last gig of 2013 would have been similar. But it wasn't.
Rats, sorry to hear that. Onward and upwards for 2014!
13.
i wish you all the best Bob and Sue, hope you have fun.
+ 1!
14. Sell out gig at the Wharf in Tavistock. Supported by fellow Tavy band Orangutan Wheelbarrow. Huge success, will hopefully put some pics and videos in Gig section!
15. Due to timing cock-ups with the support act, got chopped! Oh well, another time, maybe!
16. Tonight, for the first time in over 30 years, I will play a fretless bass in public. Only for one song! Not a difficult one - Message In A Bottle. Still twitching a bit, though!
17. As in, the early basses had the covers earthed.
18.
You won't be needing all those amps and combos then ...
That WAS part of the plan also...then new projects came along! The Big Rig is really too large for some of them, so the combos will stay for the moment, at least.
