Anything can break. I've had a few minor issues and one major with Herc stands, and they've always been sorted immediately, in or out of warranty. I wouldn't use anything else. At no time did any issue threaten my instruments. As good as it gets.

Tommy Cogbill - never gets a mention, was a great bass player

Interesting book, that. -
A Django Rheinhart cd I found when I moved into this house a couple of weeks ago.

Buffered pedals, True Bypass Pedals and Long Leads
worth pointing out to folk who don't know but this is less relevant if playing an active bass...
It's one of the reasons active instruments were invented. -
Any of those manky funguswood bookmatched occasional table basses are dorky. All of em. They look so disgustingly musicianly. That's why most of em are used for jazz and jazz fusion and sh*t like that. THE BELLS! THE BELLS! Singlecuts. Quasimodo dorkfest.
Yup, this.

Well, I always thought that my basses had a medium action at best. Turns out it's really quite low. As I use flats, I don't mind a bit of clank from the frets, so digging in isn't too big a deal. And they're lovely and easy to noodle on. I would find it unpleasant if the action was too much higher, but it's what you get used to, I suppose. Certainly surprised our Beedster when he got my Frankenjazz. He mentioned the action wasn't right for him when he got it, and my immediate thought was that it was too high. But in fact, it was much, much too low for his playing style. Not a problem to correct, of course!
"Can I have a go on your bass?" Only if I can have a go on your woman.
Must try that. Woman-dependent, natch...
Never, mainly because I know those who've asked haven't got the cash to either repair or replace it if they bust it...and as I've had gear broken in the past and not even had a sorry let alone had it fixed or replaced I'm a very untrusting soul now.
This.

Just played with a pick for the first time!
Telebass replied to lefrash's topic in General Discussion
I very rarely use a pick for the sole reason I'm sh*t f***ing useless when I do. It all goes disastrously wrong when I use a pick for some reason.
This. And having not done it for the better part of half a century, it causes me physical pain! -
As said, this applies to Markbass stuff too. My combo has the exact same handle and the exact same problem.

It's my thinking that all such equipment should live indoors. I've yet to see a garage I'd be happy to store any electronic gear in, including speakers.
You can get Marshall VBC412 pretty cheap used 4ohms and fekking loud too. It's a great cab for rock & metal. Still my favourite cab in the universe. It's 110lb though....
110lb! That would see me off! Too used to the lightweight stuff now.

Fender to finally make the Starcaster bass and reissue the Coronado?
That's one of the most sick-making headstocks I've ever seen, even worse than the Ibanez Roadstar ..
The thing that makes me sick about this picture is the idiotic stringing...whst a bloody mess. -
Ok to put rounded neck on 51 body - done it. It leaves small gaps. Putting a 51 neck on a P or J body reqires woodwork... After market 51 necks and bodies tend to have radiused neck ends and pockets though.

I have 30 (Mustang), 32 (Alien) and 34 (Precisions and Kingman). Barely notice the change from one to the other now, although I used to screw up playing the Mustang at first due to overreaching!
I have to both agree and disagree. I think it depends as to what you want to get out of your bass playing, the sound you're going for, and what gear the bass is going into. Yes it is subjective to your ears, but it depends what those ears want to hear. You may think you're getting a great sound with a £100 bass going into a fairly standard PA / AMP, and someone with different ears may be listening to you thinking "This sounds HORRIBLE!!" You just have to get comfortable with the sound you make. Personally I am completely in love with my Warwick (German made) as the clarity and preciseness of the sound and it's tone, blew away every other bass i'd played up until that point in my life. I have just got back from a massive 7 hour road trip, culminating in my collection of my first ever Lakland.... so excited to play it. Last weekend i spent 3 hours in my local music shop A/B testing Fender P and J basses. J beat P for me... and the winner was a £400 MIM Fender J bass (over £800 USA Standard and Deluxe J's) ...... Until the very helpful salesman pulled out a £1275 Fender J '62 Vintage Reissue, that completely stomped all over everything that went before it. (i don't class those fenders as high end). But then my friend who plays bass in the band that plays at the same gigs that my band plays in, has a £300 squire that he plugs into my gear and gets an amazing sound out of and i've played it and it's brilliant.... but the sound it has is not the sound i'm after.... but i love it. So you see why i said i agree and disagree!!! Very early in the morning ramble over.... time to go to sleep!!!
This is the point. In basic terms, more cash gets you a better bass. However, this will not necessarily translate into a better sound or playing experience. What works for you, works. Doesn't matter if it cost £50 or £5000.

I'm a confirmed "must have Fender on the headstock" kinda guy. Yet I'm rapidly leaning toward getting Squier basses, as, with a little fettling, they seem better! I bought a Squier Affinity PJ and modified it practically out of existence. I'm about to reverse a lot of that, most particularly the neck, which is fabulous!
But the polystyrene slabs were better protection than the polythene bag the OPs Warwick came in, which was my point. You can package something all you want but you can't counteract the actions of an idiot courier. Telebass' new Bareface cab turned up with a hole right through the side of it from a forklift fork I seem to remember. Sometimes a reinforced steel case won't be enough.
Still shuddering remembering that!

I use the great big foot switch on my TU-2. Who needs switching cables?

Worth a shot. The disappearing line in annoyed me when the mp3 based trainers were introduced. I still have my original CD-BT 1 Mk2 and use it just because of this.

If someone - anyone - ripped my bass out of my hands, I'd rip their head off their shoulders...

My Warwick Alien came in a very nice gig bag and the standard triangular box, direct from Markneukirken. While it is a very good gig bag, and it arrived safe and sound, I also expected a hardcase for the top-of-the-line instrument. It did come with plenty of tools and documentation. Although a more difficult prospect for an acoustic instrument, at £1500 a hard case should surely be the norm.

The Fender p5 is USA, so used at that price. Nice to hear good things re the Squier P5. I'll be after one soon!
