1.
But the polystyrene slabs were better protection than the polythene bag the OPs Warwick came in, which was my point. You can package something all you want but you can't counteract the actions of an idiot courier. Telebass' new Bareface cab turned up with a hole right through the side of it from a forklift fork I seem to remember. Sometimes a reinforced steel case won't be enough.
Still shuddering remembering that!
2. I use the great big foot switch on my TU-2. Who needs switching cables?
3. Worth a shot. The disappearing line in annoyed me when the mp3 based trainers were introduced. I still have my original CD-BT 1 Mk2 and use it just because of this.
4. If someone - anyone - ripped my bass out of my hands, I'd rip their head off their shoulders...
5. My Warwick Alien came in a very nice gig bag and the standard triangular box, direct from Markneukirken. While it is a very good gig bag, and it arrived safe and sound, I also expected a hardcase for the top-of-the-line instrument. It did come with plenty of tools and documentation. Although a more difficult prospect for an acoustic instrument, at £1500 a hard case should surely be the norm.
6. The Fender p5 is USA, so used at that price. Nice to hear good things re the Squier P5. I'll be after one soon!
7. The house move demon has eaten it...
8. Not forgetting that Squier now have a P5 in the range!
9. 4-5 gigs a week? I want your job! Welcome!
10. Welcome!
11. What a fine example of musicianly humanity. Not.
12. That amp desperately needs a Super 15. And it would be gigging loud!
13. I too love the sound of a 50W Silverface Bassman into the old 2x15. If it were loud enough and I could carry it, that's what I would use. It isn't, and I can't. So a LMIII and a BF Super 15 will just have to do. That's a much bigger sound than any vintage Bassman, for a quarter of the weight.
14.
Merc E280 CDI estate (automatic) - swan around in comfort, can fit my whole bass rig in the boot and still close the load cover, or with the back seats down will carry guitar rig, (small) PA and drumkit, plus drummer in the passenger seat. Loaded up it gets 37mpg, or cruising along with just driver and 1 passenger on board, I have managed 44mpg. Great stereo too. But not cheap. Coming home on the motorway from a gig, set the cruise to 70mph and have a little nap.
Lovely, isn't it? And I manage similar consumption from an E320 CDI. As soon ss I read this, I thought, "I could have written that!"
15. Ok, improved it somewhat. Carefully removed the pickup element and laid it on a hard surface. Tapped along its length with a biro. Was much quieter at the end where the E string would be. As there was length beyond the G string position, I carefully eased it back so the quiet bit was in the bridge hole, then pressed the saddle slowly back into the slot. Restrung, and although not 100%, it's usable. Result!
16. Use brass. Doesn't oxidise quite as quickly.
17. I have a good cheap digital caliper and an old Moore & Wright imperial micrometer. Whilst the calipers have much more general utility, the mike, properly set for zero, is still what I prefer for string measurements.
18. Must go to this!
19. Have put aside some time this evening to have another look (in middle of house move). Will try a gentle rearrangement of the sensor and see if that helps.
20. Much sympathy from me! I spent 7 years playing in pain, and it does rather take the shine off it...
21. Actually, no I don't. ..What have I done with it?
22. Still have this...
23. Hmmm, like that. A sensible variation on the BBOT.
24. Easy. Learn to DIY. Perfect every time.
25. The standard BBOT is as good as anything out there. And it always was.
