1. I like this! And i have done the same, although I've ended up with two basses.
2. What's that they're wanting to charge €549 for?
3. Yup, I'm for this, too. Always end up playing a Precision...
4. In this case, there was, for a time, a distinct Hot Rod Precision, so the generic US term for souping something up was used officially. And it sounds so much better than just 'P-J', because that might not be a Precision at all! Also: I swapped the necks over as mentioned above. They both still sing beautifully. So the Hot Rod is now a P-Bass Special!
5. Used mine exclusively on gigs since I built it. Will swap the Jazz neck on at some point and see if it still sings. If so, that will accomplish two things. 1) it will definitely be my no 1 bass, and 2) putting the MIM P neck in the other will return it to being a near factory standard bass, as bought for me by my wife!
6. Showbiz Kids - vest of Steely Dan. The standard sound system in the new (to me) car is epic, so I can really let it rip!
7. When our Laguna II decided to blow up its engine, we needed a new car quickly. We also decided that more space was needed for camping. Merc E320 CDI estate. I can fit BF Super 15, LMIII, stands, cable and bits cases, power extensions, and two hard-cased basses in the boot, without any rear mirror obstruction. With the seats down, capacity appears endless. Downside: relatively thirsty, but still over 40 mpg on any sort of run. Tax isn't cheap. Certainly made more sense than a Harley! Also, a bit of a target in the wrong neighbourhood.
8. The answer to which is no, they'll fit just fine. Same size A, which is small at 0.070, probably need to tweak the truss rod a little to stop that from buzzing. I feel a new acoustic band coming on!
9.
Did a gig with John Etheridge last night. Not come down yet.
Whew! On the more prosaic side, two gigs this weekend. First was a 40th Birthday party, semi-private in the guitarist's local. Great night, many friends in, always nice to have 100% support! Last night we were in Torpoint, at the Wheelers. A large, long room. Although it all went well, the audience tended to be well back along the room, not sure why. The DJ had the house disco system waaaaay louder than we were capable of being! Earplugs essential at ALL times!
10.
Yawn. soz but...zzzzzzzzzz
+1...
11. That's as much the aim as anything!
12. I used to have a 2001 Streamer Standard 5, but the neck was just too big for my little hands! I'll confess to some apprehension about the Alien, but it has a lovely neck.
13.
What jazz do you like listening to? Without knowing that It's difficult to advise, but I'd try playing that first. I'd start with simple stuff first and work your way in from there. Louis Jordan, Cab Calloway, Dixieland, Standards? You’ve lasted a long time without Jazz, what’s brought this on?
This is probably horrific to most of you, but these days, I rarely listen to any music. I have several music systems, all in boxes in the loft... However, I aim to change that, and also want to inject something different into 40+ years of playing, when you get right down to it, the same old thing.
14. I never practice any other way than with headphones. I use a Tascam MP-BT1. If I need to randomly play along with anything on a different device, then I still have a CD-BT1MkII that has a line in.
15. Thanks, guys, there's something to be going on with. Will be moving house soon, so this is a little bit in the future yet.
16. ...when you're a sixty year old rocker who doesn't read music? And I'm talking playing, nit just appreciating. Any suggestions most gratefully received!
17. Although jazz is a foreign country to me, I will be trying to purchase a copy soon!
18. Me too, once upon a time when I still had hair! Will try and find a picture.
19. Greetings from someone ALMOST in Cornwall, and wishing he still was!
20. Howdy from another bass player far gone in years!
21. Welcome! Did a year in Dhahran for Dallah Avco a long time back. That was enough...
22. And a plus for John. The only good way to sort overly stiff tuners is a strip and clean. You can do the tuners at the same time!
23. Greetings and welcome, Yolanda!
