  1. Different strokes... There's no way any one bass is the best for every player. I cannot live with anything that isn't Fender-shaped. Although the Alien is making quite an impression, I have to admit...
  2. Although a confirmed Precision nutter, my go-to bass has had a Jazz neck on it for some months now. It is so much nicer. So I only have one P neck left, and I'm trying to swap that too. Significant reduction in strain in my left hand. Also have Mustang, and that too is good, maybe TOO small. The new Alien acoustic has a great Jazz-like profile too, and the Kingman actually has a Jazz neck. It's helped me a lot, this neck change!
  3. Feeling slightly sacrilegious, I've strung the Alien with an old set of TI JF344s, suitably trimmed, and it sounds GREAT! And my fingertips are sighing with relief, because after years of flatwounds, the bronze rounds were tearing them to bits! So a set of TI JF324s is on the cards, although they have a fairly bulky E, so will have to try and judge whether or not the nut will need work. Hope not.
  4. As it says. just want to make my two Precisions match a bit better for feel. This one's a rosewood, don't mind what the swapper is, although given the choice, I'd go for maple. The neck has some wear, but is entirely good, and am happy to swap with or without hardware, which on mine is all original. Wahddaya got?
  5. Yes, I can see this being a problem with the Alien. Because of the oddball soundhole, it's difficult to mute off with a feedback buster.
  6. Having now got two acoustic basses to compare, I have to agree that cheaper can be as good, if not better. The (shiny) neck on the Kingman is a joy to play, and the electronics are good. The acosutic sound is a bit of a joke, amplified, pretty good. The Warwick Alien is in a completely differrent league in terms on construction. yet the (not shiny) neck feels no better, and the amplified sound is little different. Acoustically, it out-performs the Fender, no problem. But there certainly isn't £1000-plus difference, no way.
  7. Like Dood and others, been here since the early days of Bassworld. Life would be weird without it after all this time!
  8. Since 2004, I've mainly played a modified MIM Precision. I've always taken out a backup, or that bass has been the backup. Now it's still the main bass, equipped with a Jazz neck. The Squier PJ I recently bought and rebuilt is now the backup. In time, I will buy another black blocks Jazz neck for that one also.
  9. Yes, 32". Not selling, but should it ever come to mind...
  10. Now being ignored along with everything else due to the arrival of the Alien!
  11. Played a few when I worked in a guitar shop. Excellent quality basses.
  12. Just on the off chance - I'm unexpectedly free this weekend! Can do electric or electro-acoustic.
  13. First impressions: The Alien is much louder, acoustically, than the Kingman I have. Still not really that loud, but noticeably different. Played using the soundhole as a thumb rest, it sounds really quite upright-like, but this doesn't translate that well into amplified sound. However, the Prefix Plus system needs some fiddling time, so I may yet improve on that. The long thumb rest is positioned about as far from the strings as a Precision bass pickup cover would be, which for me is too far out. I'll see if Warwick can advise on removing it. Out of the box, the setup was really nice. It has the Just-A-Nut III, so everything can be fettled really nicely. The neck is a nice round handful without being in any way a baseball bat. fretwork is excellent. Now, back to playing it!
  14. Just my two cents: I have a Kingman, which is very nice but quiet acoustically. However, the Warwick Alien I've just got is much louder. However, while it might keep up with a quiet acoustic on its own, there's no such instrument other than an Earthwood that could actually do an unamped acoustic gig. The comment about the Ozark being horrible and middy is true, but times have moved on, and that's far from the norm these days. Both mine, played clean through headphones and a Tascam Bass Trainer, can sound very good, and different to an electric. That difference will be less through stage amps or PA. So the only real choice is over the look of the thing. If that's really all it is, then go cheap!
  15. Ah, no. Much as I'd love another fretless, I doubt I have the skills any longer...
  16. Yer tiz. [attachment=136774:Dsc00090.jpg] [attachment=136775:Dsc00091.jpg] [attachment=136776:Dsc00092.jpg] [attachment=136777:Dsc00094.jpg] [attachment=136778:Dsc00095.jpg] I likes it!
  17. It's here. And it's not a Rockbass... Photos soon!
  18. Ouch, that's an expensive hobby!
  19. Checking carefully through the Warwick web site, I find that ALL Aliens are now made in China. There are three models, Alien Standard, Alien Deluxe, and Warwick Alien. The Warwick Alien is the one with the Florentine cutaway and long thumb rest, and that's the one pictured on the prize draw posting. So here's hoping!
  20. Pics, yes. Sound samples and vids? No. I'd never live it down...
  21. Used it exclusively at a big gig last night - was great!
  22. As far as I can tell, it's probably a Rockbass. I really don't mind!
  23. My son has my camera...more pics in a few days! My phone's not up to it...
