1. Precisely! Although I rely on the income, I want to enjoy it too. I have an audition coming up as John McVie in another forming FM tribute, so maybe won't need to follow this through after all. Added to the other band, and amazingly it looks like they will dovetail quite nicely, should work out well.
2. Of course, you could bin the BAII - original style is every bit as good, and guaranteed to fit. (4-saddle BBOT that is, not 51 bridge).
3. Posted on Book of the Face by an old workmate of mine! https://www.facebook.com/guillaume.arreckx/posts/4805473455072?comment_id=4469278&offset=0&total_comments=4&notif_t=feed_comment_reply
4. The idea was to avoid extraneous talking by getting some stuff clear in my mind first.
5. The 51 style covers will only fit over 51 style bits. Although a Badass III is ok. But the Dirnt isn't drilled for string-through.
6. Join? You should immediately be voted Chairman! I also qualify, and additionally come from Essex. ..
7. That is supposed to be b bracket...
8. Most of the reasons for not using open strings that don't involve damping are to do with the different sound of fretted and open strings where the nut is not metal. My take on this is that a) in most live music, no one is ever going to notice, and if you use flats, it's near impossible to tell the difference anyway.
9. Let's get this straight. You have a Mike Dirnt. You want a cover for the pickup? Ok. If you want the 51 style cover, then no. You want a 51 style bridge cover? No. Won't fit over the Badass. The upshot is: Covers + Dirnt = non-starter. You might fit a 57 pickup cover, but it would look horrible.
10. ^^^^ And this was indeed what prompted the thread in the first place. Although it was and is a wish list, how else do you formulate what you want/expect?
11. For the first time in I don't know how long, I don't have a gig this weekend!
12. Damn, if I could get this Telecaster shifted, I'd be having your arm off...
13.
This thread has got me going. I'm looking to start a band from scratch but I fear I won't be able to because I'm punctual and organised. For example, I attempted to meet up with a singer for coffee recently. After waiting for an hour, I left. We tried twice more and she was late each time. "I don't do late", I said and I was told off for being inflexible and unrealistic when dealing with musicians. I might as well give up forming a band right now then.
That would have had me foaming at the mouth...
14. Never understood that quote from Phil Lesh. Sounds a bit pompous to me...
15. Some strings bought from me by Brian - many thanks! Much recommended. Dennis
16.
Cables don't make a difference to your sound. Magic pebbles. There's an article somewhere on the web (don't care to find it right now) which debunks the whole thing. If there is a difference, then it's extremely subtle and negligible because there have been countless blind tests where nobody could tell a difference between gold plated voodoo and bargain bin Stagg cables. A poorly made cable might start to fall apart or introduce noise flaw which consequently has negative impacts upon the sound, but a functional cable is not going to gain any benefit from being plated in gold or whatever else it is they try and sell. My suggestion would be to simply to choose based upon price and build quality. Having excessive lengths of cable can have a theoretical negative impact, but it's very small, and you'd need lots of it to accumulate any discernible difference. That's not to say that having reams of unnecessary cable all over the floor isn't a royal pain in the backside though. EDIT: Talking about instrument cables here, that is.
This. In any case, bin the link and go wireless.
17.
What, you mean step AWAY from the computer and go outside?? It could rain! There might be a wasp! ANYTHING could happen!!
HAha, great! Welcome, Yvette!
18. Got these for the Pawn Shop Mustang, but they are too short for string-thru. Unlikely to fit any bass with a tailpiece. Would fit a Bronco or Musicmaster. Price includes postage.
