My preference is the .73 tortex Dunlops,y'know the yellow one's. They seem to be just about right for me. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jim-Dunlop-Tortex-...m/dp/B000Q87CZW

There is a wicked video somewhere on the t'interweb of us scaring the bejeesus out of a venue in Sheffield, the sound quality is awful but its worth a look for the giggle,i checked youtube but its not there yet.
Ah awesome, I'd love to own a Thunderbird- I think that's going to be my next bass, especially for Drop D stuff, my P-Bass isn't a great suitor to that style. Nice buy
i'm using my 5 string t-bird tuned to A-D-A-D-G and it rules!

Tim Smith of Cardiacs, doubtless genius and it is a true shame that he hasnt got the credit he deserves, one of Englands finest. He is quite ill still after having a heart attack and stroke but on the mend apparently...how on the mend remains to be seen.

I have just stumbled across the rather georgeous ESH basses in the latest Bass magazine, anybody here got or had one? Are they as good as they look,i particularly like the stingers.
-
I got the five string in March, its a real beauty, sounds awesome. I was under the impression you could get a fitted hardcase from epiphone for about £65-70? I allready had a spare case that it fitted in so i didnt bother.
Pics of the Mockingbird? Or do I already know of this one? Thanks
Hi Lorne, you actually gave me advice when i was thinking of buying it,i sent you pictures at the time. I went on the BC Rich players site asking if it was genuine and had all the right bits etc
-
I was a tad aprehensive myself to be honest but the BTRL music demanded some super low notes so i had to oblige. Not so bad now i'm used to the extra one. cheers for the warm welcome by the way!

Blimey! Ive owned more drumkits than basses really but here's my little effort! First bass was some rubbish P-Bass copy(axe?) bought from the back of Kerrang magazine when i were a nipper,it was white and weighed a ton! played drums with no bass action for a good few years then... Legend Stingray copy, sounded dreadfull was really uncomfortable and was made in the dark by a one armed pirate i think as the finish was awful! Next i got an Aria electro acoustic which i still have and play alot at home. Then i traded in the Stingray copy and bought an Epiphone T-Bird,very neck droppy and the original pick ups were mental but after some tweaking and several million gigs it still remains part of the arsenal, bit battered now though! My first and only really pro bass was and indeed is a 1980 BC Rich Mockingbird which is an absolute beauty, the guy i bought it off said that the shop he bought it from said that Bernard Edwards traded it in while on tour to buy a Fender but there's absolutely no proof so it might just be a load of Bullcrap(he did play BC Rich back then though,Eagles mainly i think) Then recently i needed a 5 string for my band Beat the red light so i got one of the new Epiphone Pro T-Birds,i really like it,its a joy to play and sounds amazing. Next....we'll see.
Welcome to the forum Can't help you with your query though - try posting it in the Bass Guitars forum and I'm sure a 5 string expert will be along shortly.
I chatted to a guy from the bass centre in London today and he said that to do the drop tuning/tension on my E and B strings (now D and A) i'll need to step my guages up to a minimum of 110 and 135 to get the feel to a standard which most people would find acceptable,i will be shopping for some asap and i will put it on here how i get on for other peoples reference....if it isnt allready here somewhere.

Hi just stumbled across this place, anybody got any good advice about what gauge strings to put on my five string t-bird,I'm using the tuning A,D,A,D,G and the two lower strings are way too sloppy with the strings that it came with.
