1. Isn't it Olympia? Olympus make cameras dont they?
2. Cheapskate.
3. We generally use wood glue as it wont adhere to the metal screw. Matchsticks are made for this type of thing. Matchsticks and glue and you can put the screw straight back without waiting for it to dry. Just screw it in, when the glue dries in an hour or so, you can then tighten it up a bit more. There was no need to tin the ground wire either, as long as it is in contact with the bridge, jobs a groovy one.
4. Yep, as long as you store your bass responsibly, not in the bathroom for instance, and the wood is properly seasoned there will not be a problem.
5. It's the earth buzz. Your strings are grounded and you are indeed the earth when you play. A lot of instruments will have an audible buzz when they are not earthed. It should be hardly noticable unless you plug into any equipment, amp, mixer etc that has a bad earth somewhere.
6. Dur. Yea! Frets are for children!
7. Dont talk to me about basses. I spend every waking hour with them and get to sit down and play them for all of, oh, 5 minutes. That really ficks me off at the moment.
8. Light sand and a dust coat of satin nitrocellulose.
9. Whats with all the $ signs? We is in the uk huh? $3k for a guitar? I wish! Maybe in another 15 years I'll be hitting that 55k mark myself and I'd be pretty happy with that. A house with a decent outbuilding is the only way to go in this business. You gotta be dedicated and stubborn and obsessed with making the best basses ever made coz that's all there is. Money comes and goes, in that order, with about 5 minutes inbetween. + I reckon Vinny's doin alright out of it! He manages to employ half of his family and has the best job in the world to boot.
10.
Oh my that looks superb! Speedy progress too although I guess he's got loads he can't finish yet so he's cracking on with what he can ;-)
I sold out!
11. I mentioned trying a lighter guage just to see if the slots were too tight etc. On a side note, I wind as little string on to the tuner as possible. Generally I cut the string at the next tuner peg and end up with just under a full turn.
12. Creates space between neck and heel. Not a great idea apart from action adjust. Tonally not on.
13. You could always use a blob of 2 part epoxy from your local hardware store for a proper-ish fix. Pretty much self leveling.
14. Keep it as local as possible, mask off the surrounding area and work your way up from 320 to 1200 wet and buff the whole board with swirl remover. Use a small piec of mdf as your sanding block. You might find that just leveling the area will suffice.
15. Nail varnish wont last 5 minutes. It's just nitro laquer in disguise. Super glue would be better.
16. Try a lighter guage. Is the slot at the saddle too small?
17. Is the pickup too close on the bass side? What pickup is it? The nut slot would affect the string even on fretted notes. Loose tuner?
18.
Have you looked at the state of the hardware on this "thing"?
Oh yea. I assume the paint is 'flat' though with no actual crazing.
19. I think it's less relic and more of a fancy paint job. Relics should have bare wood IMO.
20.
I found a small, shorter bolt I could drop down inside the insert. Then screw the original bolt from the 3-point into the insert. Once it makes contact with the bolt inside, keep turning and it should start to lever the insert out enough that you can pull it the rest of the way. Need to use a big bladed, preferably long handled screw driver, so you don't wreck the head of the 3-point bolt.
Sounds like a great idea. Crank extractor style.
21. Holy sh*t. I must try that. On an old neck!
22. All this 24 hr quarter turn stuff is bull. Especially on a natural finished neck. A good neck should move instantly with maybe slight adjustment later on.
23. Get over it man. sh*t happens! You have no contract with the guy and the venue world is full of twats which you should be aware of by now if you are at the point in your career of being able to demand a fee for playing what I assume is original material.
24. Is it a Left handed hammer?
