1. "move around if you can't find work in your own town" weller/talbot. The tories and the death of local industry in the 80's is to blame. They should be footing the bill not us. . . AGAIN!
2. Yea. You dremel the channels into the underside of the fingerboard (i'd probably use a small gouge). Never done it myself but i guess you'd do all the work including dot holes after the board is very closely rough tapered before you glue and trim, epoxy the fibres in place, glue and trim. The fibre ends are then just taped to the led. Or some sh*t like that .
3. optic fibre is a good way of keeping power drain to a minimum. You only need one led.
4. But they do come in different sizes, and it does affect compatibility.
5. Thomann. ugh. They have taken payment details from me for items that are out of stock with the idea that they will take the money when the item is in stock, I think not. Also delivery times to the uk are not the best.
6. Sorry about the tb link but this was the first thing i could find on the subject. Rip away http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f38/6mm-vs-1-4-output-jack-359813/
7.
vs:- Yup, gotcha, I can see whats going on here, yeah thats it, total reality failure
ha ha. yea good one. That's the difference between sounding like maroon 5 and sebadoh. Big is not always better.
8. The guy who bought this listed it on gumtree with a small mark up. A lovely fun little number it is too. Very light and twangy.
9. Oh the tea bags have been lyin around for ages.
10. I got some paper mache and old tea bags.
11.
With all due respect - that is utter rubbish. You've clearly never been in on a really good tracking session, in a decent studio. New strings everytime - absolutely definitelywith that genre. You can get brilliance eq'ed out with a gentle cut, you cant add harmonic content into the sound of old strings, and that is what will make the bass heard against the guitars and over laptop speakers. Old strings maybe OK for MoTown (not necessarily tru either in fact ) but they are definietly the right way to go for rock, pop, funk, and pretty much everything else when recording.
pah! Studios are expensive versions of a laptop and a couple of decent mics.
12. I have a framus 12 string from the 60's with the pickup and three control knobs (removed, they're around somewhere). Worth owt?
13. Faster attack on the vox compression will sort out those spikes at the beginning of each vocal line. Just a thought. Also, try and get the 'engineer' to make the bass audible in the mix for small systems ie laptop speakers. We need more mids in bass nowadays and less sub bass. My mates a bugger for mixing on hifi speakers which doesn't work when most folk listen online.
14. Just get a new e string then.
15.
Most of mine are a tad longer than that...
hur hur hur.
16.
- and in the studio tune around the area of the fretboard you'll be spending most time rather than open strings.
Sound advice.
17. I've mentioned this before but everyone seemed to disagree and I'm probably wrong but I'll say it again for fun. Leads are either 6mm or 1/4" (6.35mm)
18.
I'm not sure I agree with that. A person on the desk with good gear and a good ear who knows what he's doing will have a much better shot at capturing the 'feel' of a band.
No doubt. If you can afford him/her. I do prefer an edgy sound which is best captured on the fly and doesn't require a highly paid genius.
19. Nylon tapewound for acoustic tone, and pull the frets out.
20.
Shed and laptop: old strings Abbey Road : new strings
That's probably right. Although I can't imagine paul mccartney ever changed his strings on that hofner.
21. Sheds and laptops make the best studios. Bands get noticed off the back of home recordings. Real studios kill feeling.
22. This http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnFhvxcNXME&feature=related
23. The bridge IS sideways adjustable. Nice bass.
