There are three things you can do before having at start attaching weights to the body: 1. Hipshot make Ultralite versions of the clover key machine heads fit those. 2. Move the strap button at the neck end of the body to either the apex of the curve (it looks as though it's just below that at the moment) or the back of the neck pocket - which ever gets it closest to the 12th fret when the bass is held at your preferred playing angle. 3. Move the strap button at the other end of the body further up (away from the controls).
1.ultralites can only do so much. pm me if you want some though. 2.'s'wot i said. 3.no 2 should be enough. I can't believe people are spending hard cash on instruments that fit the image but play like sh*t, and actually end up hanging dumbells off the end just to make em sit up straight. Some image!

medium or long should both be fine. There's not a lot in it really. It's when you go to proper long scale (35" and up) that you end up wasting hundreds of pounds on so called long scale strings.

If Fender and Gibson can't figure it out what chance have you got? Tis a crime punishable by death (beheading would fix the dive). I fixed a mates thunderbird by simply moving the top button to the end of the heel. Failing that, get a decent bass. (all in good humour)

Dont make em like they used to. Applies to most things. Standards tend to slip rather than get better.
I done one of mine a while back Def helped but I reckon the wiring in this house is shot which isn't helping. I got it from Ebay. Cheap stuff but must have conductive adhesive. Was well chuffed when I didn't need to solder the join. If I could be arsed I would do the rest. But I'm lazy Oddly though I had the "Pro" set up and repair guy at a shop tell me it does nothing. the wood shields it anyway.
No it don't.

A regular question this. Garden centre 'slug tape' does need soldering between the joins. If you buy proper and inexpensive sheilding tape with conductive adhesive you save yourself a load of hassle. Anything advertised as EMI sheilding tape is great. Or f*&k it, tin foil does the job and any spare can be used for wrapping up old sausages. You don't need to sheild pickup cavities. Make sure the tape creeps over the top of the cav slightly in order to complete the circuit across the access cover.

1meg stacked pots for parametric mid control
How about this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dual-Gang-Potentiome...9-/160593670405
Don't think so but i'll look into it. I'm pretty sure it has to be concentric. I'll forward it to Ben and see what he says. Cheers though. -
Seems we can only get these 1meg stacked pots from the U.S for stupid money. Anyone know somewhere in the U.K? The Danelectro Allparts uns are no good as they are 1meg/250k which aint right for mids. Not my field, asking on behalf of my circuit bloke. Cheers uhhuh.

just pack it well enough for it not to get damaged. all the insurance you need.
I just remembered something about Ken Smith that I'd completely forgotten about. Back in the 80's I saw the famous pic of Anthony Jackson in Bass Player sitting with his 6 string Smith bass. In my young mind I thought 'wow!' and decided I wanted a 6 stringer for myself. I couldn't afford the USA prices plus import tax and duty, so thought about getting z UK builder to make me one. This was before the Internet and easily available 6 string pickups and bridges. I got a local milling shop to make me z bridge to my own specs. I called Kent Armstrong about pickups and he told me that he actually made all of Ken's bass pickups but couldn't sell me a set as they were exclusively for Ken's business. Fair enough. Ken said he could make me 6 string pickups but I'd have to supply something to create the mould shape. I was gonna use a wooden dolly for that but wondered if I could buy a set of pickups from ken directly. I called Ken Smith and told him about my conversation with Kent Armstrong, and to save me the hassle of making my own template, would it be possible to buy a set directly from himself? Unfortunately he said 'no' which I understood and fully appreciated. Put phone down and think 'okay' time to do done shaping work myself. 15 mins later Kent Armstrong phones me to ask 'did you just phone Ken Smith?' - yup. Kent tells me Smith had phoned him screaming down thf phone that he was gonna sue Kent for breach of confidentiality about who made the pickups and called him 'a total ass' for even discussing things with me. Needless to say, Kent was not amused by Ken's attitude Nd went on to make mr a great set of pickups. So, in my opinion also, Ken Smith will always remain a complete w***er.
nuff said. seems to me it aint about the basses anymore for ken smith. money and ego!

utter rubbish. why would you use ups for such a small thing anyway? stick it in a jiffy and airmail it. a fiver would do that surely. i guess the guy makes enough money to not give a rats ass.
-
the easiest way is to get hold of a scratch plate and use the pickup hole in that + router to create your template. you'll have to drill out the corners first to achieve the correct corner radius, a 6-7mm drill bit should work.
Sorry but I think this is incorrect - you should set your desired relief with the truss rod, set your intonation and use the bridge saddles to adjust your string height. Using the truss rod to adjust your action can have undesirable consequences - too little relief can cause buzzing near the nut and too much can cause buzzing above the 12th fret for instance.
+1 however if the bridge is original and the saddle are bottomed out. this would point towards neck relief problems.
Lately while watching videos of my band playing, i witness myself lacking in regards to dynamics. Maybe its not that serious for a 3rd person (or maybe it is) but it is for me at least. In order to fix that, much heavier practise is needed (of course) or maybe a compressor that would even my dynamics during the song. Hopefully i got that one right on what compressors could be used for. I used to be against that in the start and 100% pro natural playing, but just in case i needed one what would you suggest? Im using an all tube amp, so i really dont need a compressor that adds warmth, or shapes up my sound. A crystal clear one would be the best, as im totally happy with my sound as it is. I would really be interested in a kinda simple effect unit, that doesnt affect my sound at all (if possible), evens my dynamics (at least the lower ones), and possibly adds a bit of extra sustain. And yeah, not really expensive
overdrive units are a type of compressor. keep input signal low and boost the output.

very admirable. who needs slanty haircuts and £3000 instruments? you can relate more to your audience if they feel like (and you look like) you're one of them. it worked for cobain and marley who were also trashed or stoned after 2 hours of being awake, never mind waiting to go on.
