1. scroll bass now sold. still got the five, and a super light 32" ash 4 string fretless on the way. i'm talking 5lb!!
2. yes. the drummer should get some brushes for these scenarios, and keep at a low volume. this can aid the learning process too as you can hear more of the little details. bass will go in all directions i'm afraid. soundproofing is not a necessarily expensive affair. in fact it's mostly air. studwall with rubber strips under each bit of plasterboard and air inbetween.
3. very nice. had that been cocobolo you'd struggle to pick it up!
4. shouldn'y be a problem with your playing style. the flatwork is crewed down and the poles just need putting back in those holes with some superglue. be dang careful with those coil wires! more delicate than a red wine hangover.
5. how do you do.
6. fudge the bass! them crazy ass musicians are cooler than they could ever know. the anticool!
7. 'virtually no fret wear'! i wonder why.
8. we're not delivering eggs. i had a bass destroyed on the way to the usa, but for the uk, just stick it in a nenvelope.
9. protect the main areas. card between strings and fingerboard (no loose strings flappin around scratchin pups and that), protect the back of the neck, pad around the controls, basic scratch proofing on the body, maybe some padding around the nut, gig bag, bubble wrap, box (homemade). failing that, a nardcase.;
10. http://www.custombassguitar.net/ crazy shizzle, and i aint talkin about the bass. check the videos at the bottom of the page.
11. to ship a guitar in a (well packaged) cardboard box is the norm. to get a case is a bonus. shame it couldn't be wrapped in card, but hey. you aint gonna wrap it up in card every time you go to a gig.
12.
Well done for restricting it to just the -£46.72.... it's cost me thousands!
dave the drummer gets pimped to cover costs.
13.
I could do with a bit of your luck matey!
in terms of success, not so lucky. i think in 20 years i've made -£46.72
14.
Not sure about this, my mate is a brilliant guitarist, we've been mates for over 40 years (we met at infant school) I've tried to be in bands with him many times over the years. It never works, we like the same music, obviously get on well, and are great friends, but just cannot play together! He frustrates the hell out of me, cos he has so much talent yet so little ambition..... I like starting bands with people I don't know, cos they usually behave themselves for a year or two at least, before they turn out to be total ar*es.... If they seem like an ar*e at an audition/first rehearsal, they don't get the job!
no, i just mean i was lucky to have such people around who were on the same level. a band for life!
15.
The neck is Padouk, Ebony fingerboard and solid Wengé body... awesome woods.
i was just gonna say that. is that prometeus i see in your avatar?
16. i've played with the same small bunch of people forever. we've had our ups and downs. sometimes one of us (me) will halt proceedings if things get stale. if you grow up with musician/friends, thats the best thing in the world. i can't imagine starting a band with people i don't know too well, and if they were arses, my gut would tell me straight away, and i wouldn't turn up twice.
17. bumped up to the top of the new post pile. post pile tension.
18. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=120065 elites?
19. actually. on the headstock shot, the wood looks a little suspect, mineral streaks and such. funny, it says custom series on the head. what's custom about it?
20. beautiful colour and neck binding!
21.
This on the other hand I find a lot more special. Edit: Futurama versus Sue Ryder P bass. Let the battle commence.
futurama everytime. you certainly wouldn't be asking around bc for a new neck with this futurama. you don't find neck wood like that on too many cheapo guitars.
22. i'm not sure about led, but if you have a look at kingblossomguitars on youtube, theres a video which shows the use of fibre optics which looks pretty cool.
23. back then though, i think they were made in czechoslovakia or summat. wasn't aware the company was still going. those old 50's 60's guitars were ace. really light, set necks and vox pickups. strange U shape neck and really tight radius. it's now a pickup tester with more holes than it started with.
24. awesome. i played a futurama II six string guitar for ages. was one of the best playing guitars i've ever had. futurama were a fab company and i would highly recommend the bass. i mean, just look at that curly maple neck!!!!
25.
Didn't Roger Waters recently bought a Sue Ryder P-Bass?
yea. he's on here looking for a jazz neck.
