More seriously, no-one's really grappled with the problem that a Dom7 is such a tangy chord with such a strong movement that it's really hard to do anything but extend it and/or set it up where it's going, i.e. a fifth below. So I'm in. Great song writer and player. You've all covered the precision angle rightly. He was a big Squire fan in the early days so much respect for finding his own voice and not going down the Rick-route.

I love Stanley. That's my start-point. As for 'Bass Nation' I enjoyed it. I think the theme, 'Be prepared' was pretty widely interpreted to mean anything, particularly in terms of producers hiring you. Ironically, I think Stanley stands a a voice who would never get hired except to be himself. I agree with earlier posters who said CDP was a monster!. Didn't really get the sports car segment. So an uneven experience for me regards the video. Can't help liking him tremendously though from my first Clarke-Duke concert in the '80s when he got bass players out of the audience to jam with him. Not me - too nervous but some guy gave him a run for his money!

It's a good style. Not very current ATM but good none the less. Vic does it brilliantly. So does our own Mark King and also Nigel Clutterbuck who does an amazing slap thing with elements of John Entwistle. He was a thing in A1 in Manchester in the day. Blame Larry Graham and Stanley Clarke! So we've three ingredients on music: rhythm, melody and harmony and I think slap is a valid style for the intersection of rhythm and harmony.

Good thoughtful response and respectfully taken. My point is that I want some great music with bass - that's it. Don't care who provides it. Fact is these young stars are notable for their age nothing else. Let's see how they get on. For example this chap - child as a freak then subsequently maturing into a artist. The youth is a distraction.

Erm not interested in ranking. I just know she thrusts her fist through my sternum and removes my heart every time I hear her singing. 'Blue' is incredible. 'Court and Spark' is wonderful. And so bass players, we get to 'Hejira' and Jaco sounds off his 6/9 harmonics in 'Coyote' and it's just perfect. 'Refuge of the Roads' has a multi-tracked fretless bass orchestra. Non-Jaco tracks so great too.

Impressive but... this phenomena is known as a 'dancing pony'. So you've got a dancing horse. It's not great dancing (music) but it's a horse so that's something. Nobody would spend money to buy this a music but it's a dancing horse. It's a product of the YouTube age. Give it 90 seconds and you'll click away. I'd rather hear about where you've spent your money to buy music. Not to show a talented statistical edge case do something you can't. And 'no' I don't like gospel. ** Edit - a bit harsh. Talented little chap but I don't want to listed to it, let alone pay for it. **
