1. So Mark King we have 'Hot Water' or 'Love Games'. Marcus we have 'Run for Cover', for Billy we have.... ? ermm ? that one with the tapping. You know... diddley, diddley, plunk?
2. I'll go with it's because he never had a hit or anthem, What's his 'Eruption', 'Jump' or 'Beat It'? Can you whistle a single BS lick or line?
3. SpectreSound get round to reviewing it at last... Not the best sounds I've heard from it but worth a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZvYqhE48SA
4. Was there anyone in the audience without a Fodera to sign?
5.
Official photo from bass direct when I bought it, but here is mine
That is stunning.... much prefer the older models. New shapes are bland
6. Still sad... took me a while to listed to Yes again after he passed away. Re. recommendations, I think 'Relayer' is probably his most technically impressive playing but I might be a hard listen for a newbie... 'To be over' is beautiful though right off the bat. I'd go 'The Yes Album' first probably. I saw the Drama tour too at Deeside Leisure Centre. Hugely impressed despite no JA and RW....
7. Five and Seven strings yield their major scale note layouts better than four and sixers if you're a pattern-based player. Simple maths really resonating with pentatonic and seven-note (sepatonic) scale forms. I know many will cry rubbish but as an example, I'd cite the seven's ability to deliver the entire major scale as a single fret vertical as one primary form on which to build. Like-wise a five will yield a wonderful 3x3 mixolydian with rotational symmetry with its rotated brother pivoting around the Ab on the A. (In the key of C.) A four cannot reproduce this so neatly. A six can but with the ugly pattern breaking remainder on the adjacent string.
8. So does DDP just use thumb & forefinger exlclusively now? Anywho, he is a phenomenal player... much overlooked. I think he gave up bass for a few years and became a priest? Not sure if the right hand transition didn't happen then?
9. Probably depends on the weed intake...
10. Yes please... something really different
11. So I get that it's not strictly 'vintage' but I'm a bit confused now at the 'aggressive' overlap with the B7K? What the clear blue water that this does and the B7K doesn't and vice-versa?
12. I think the Manchester Bass Lounge has one... http://greatbritishbasslounge.com/product/bassics-bpa-1-bass-preamplifier-system/ £400! Hope it's good... crowded market... No overdrive but compressor...
13. I agree with comments so far. Their version of 'Close to the Edge' is awesome too. Makes Yes Symphonic and Magnification pale. I think it comes down to a combination of fantastic musicians and a really, really good orchestral arranger.
14.
Got to admit some of it I'd have NO idea what to expect, for example The Three Quartets Band The Leprechaun Band
Well you either know those two records or you don't... Think the Leprechaun might have had Anthony Jackson on bass? Anywho - I hope its recorded and released.... (pretty sure it will be - at least as a highlights package)
15. Re. Age - my bad... hope I'm like Chick when I'm 75!
16. Quite a line-up for Chick's 75th birthday residencey at the Blue Note... Bass player roster includes:

John Patitucci for the Elektric Band shows
Marcus Miller for the 'For Miles' shows
Charles Benavent for the Flamenco shows
Carlitos Del Puerto for the Origin shows
Aishai Cohen for the RTF acoustic shows
and, finally Victor for the RTF electric shows and John McLaughlin!
Obviously Stanley must be on tour elsewhere... Can't imagine why else he'd miss it. That's quite a line-up and astonishing that one pianist can cover the complete repertoire (plus there's more formats too I haven't listed.) Wish I lived nearer New York....
17. visog

Which compressor?

Wish I could hear what the damn things do... besides add hiss and muffle simultaneously???
18.
Much more than the VMT and the first VMTD certainly, the second version of the VMTD seemed to go further than the first two though so i suppose the Ultra is just the natural evolution. Not sure if the Vintage has lost its way though. I loved the first VMTD, didnt get on with the second version as for me the Era knob was the selling point.
I agree... not quite what I was expecting... going more into the B7K realm than what I'd think of as vintage.. Sounds good though if you just take on face (sound) value for hotting up a clean bass.... but it's becoming a crowded market. Probably a good place to start if you've nothing in place but I'm not sure I'd rush to upgrade a VMT...
19. I've experience some noise issues and pops when the unit was too close to my PC and speaker amplifier... sounds fine now though. On a separate note... Here's the Le Crunch with bass... I think it sounds a bit more aggressive B7K vs the Le Bass more Vintage Tubes? See what you think https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Dhy6ujlz-4
20. Yes well unfortunately I've got it and 'Players'... the keyboard sounds are so cheesy compared with say, Bruford's Dave Stewart just a few years earlier... Quite like his more simple playing on Kazumi Watanabe's 'Spice of Life' and 'Spice of Life Too'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zmxnfzl86Q Pity McLaughlin sub'ed him on 'Live at the Festival Hall'... saw JB with McLaughlin a few months earlier at the Cambridge Corn Exchange and he was phenomenal...
21. Principles went out in the '60s... I not condoning what's happened but an over stretched Police force will probably have to say, we can't make up for nativity... Do your homework, protect yourself, practise good online behaviour and assume everyone is a fraudster (unfortunately)....
22. Moderators! Get this in 'Effects'.... Good discussion BTW
23. Amazing transcription and play along... can't help thinking though that Jeff should not be left to play by himself... Work with Allan Holdsworth and John McLaughlin (under a proper composer/band leader) much more musical and focused. Just listening to solo on 'Water on the Brain' yesterday... light years ahead of this in terms of harmony and structure. Jeff plays Jeff is not a great combination.
24. Failing that, try a UK luthier that's worked on Alembics... Martin at the Bass Gallery for example
25. Yet another vid... this one a nice in-depth trial from the Andertons chaps in an episode of 'All about the bass' https://www.youtube....h?v=XdjhTSIWjh0 Actually this one's quite a good tutorial on the product too...
