1. Quite a line-up for Chick's 75th birthday residencey at the Blue Note... Bass player roster includes:

John Patitucci for the Elektric Band shows
Marcus Miller for the 'For Miles' shows
Charles Benavent for the Flamenco shows
Carlitos Del Puerto for the Origin shows
Aishai Cohen for the RTF acoustic shows
and, finally Victor for the RTF electric shows and John McLaughlin!
Obviously Stanley must be on tour elsewhere... Can't imagine why else he'd miss it. That's quite a line-up and astonishing that one pianist can cover the complete repertoire (plus there's more formats too I haven't listed.) Wish I lived nearer New York....

Which compressor?

Wish I could hear what the damn things do... besides add hiss and muffle simultaneously???
3.
Much more than the VMT and the first VMTD certainly, the second version of the VMTD seemed to go further than the first two though so i suppose the Ultra is just the natural evolution. Not sure if the Vintage has lost its way though. I loved the first VMTD, didnt get on with the second version as for me the Era knob was the selling point.
I agree... not quite what I was expecting... going more into the B7K realm than what I'd think of as vintage.. Sounds good though if you just take on face (sound) value for hotting up a clean bass.... but it's becoming a crowded market. Probably a good place to start if you've nothing in place but I'm not sure I'd rush to upgrade a VMT...
4. I've experience some noise issues and pops when the unit was too close to my PC and speaker amplifier... sounds fine now though. On a separate note... Here's the Le Crunch with bass... I think it sounds a bit more aggressive B7K vs the Le Bass more Vintage Tubes? See what you think https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Dhy6ujlz-4
5. Yes well unfortunately I've got it and 'Players'... the keyboard sounds are so cheesy compared with say, Bruford's Dave Stewart just a few years earlier... Quite like his more simple playing on Kazumi Watanabe's 'Spice of Life' and 'Spice of Life Too'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zmxnfzl86Q Pity McLaughlin sub'ed him on 'Live at the Festival Hall'... saw JB with McLaughlin a few months earlier at the Cambridge Corn Exchange and he was phenomenal...
6. Principles went out in the '60s... I not condoning what's happened but an over stretched Police force will probably have to say, we can't make up for nativity... Do your homework, protect yourself, practise good online behaviour and assume everyone is a fraudster (unfortunately)....
7. Moderators! Get this in 'Effects'.... Good discussion BTW
8. Amazing transcription and play along... can't help thinking though that Jeff should not be left to play by himself... Work with Allan Holdsworth and John McLaughlin (under a proper composer/band leader) much more musical and focused. Just listening to solo on 'Water on the Brain' yesterday... light years ahead of this in terms of harmony and structure. Jeff plays Jeff is not a great combination.
9. Failing that, try a UK luthier that's worked on Alembics... Martin at the Bass Gallery for example
10. Yet another vid... this one a nice in-depth trial from the Andertons chaps in an episode of 'All about the bass' https://www.youtube....h?v=XdjhTSIWjh0 Actually this one's quite a good tutorial on the product too...

Bassics BPA-1

Views anyone...? What's the compressor like? More video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ko-WsUqoxcM
12. Another vid of the Le Bass where the guy walks through a number of channel and parameter settings... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xq96qLu21c
13. Think part of the problem here is 'dilution' - when an artist has a long career, their highs can get lost in some of the more lacklustre workaday making a living output. Some people manage to keep their contributions short and profound but often because they die early. Some of Bootsy's 80s output was pretty ropey... but then too was Stanley's... etc. Enjoy Bootsy's best bits...
14.
But still, never heard of a 3 bolt fender neck joint 'snapping', let alone a custom build from one of the most respected in the world. Si
Snap maybe not but I think it's common for them to move out of alignment... Anyway, take your point about the Drozd... look's a beaut!
15. That Jerzy Drozd is quite nice but only three neck bolts? Makes me nervous that the neck will move or snap. And you'd put it out of whack every time you picked it up. Arghhghh it's not viable
16. Not is exactly a bass, but then not exactly a guitar either - it's Tosin Abasi's new signature model... single cut, slant frets... Klein body shaping... Pretty radical stuff... like the player... Plus he uses a lot of bass techniques in his playing (4-finger pluck and double thumbing for example so it counts here!) http://geargods.net/...ype-is-bonkers/ And in action: https://www.youtube....h?v=xQWQjZxfs4g
17. It's possible but without an experienced ear in the form of a teacher, it might be difficult to correct pitch problems. Consider a violin and the years people spend just getting a decent tone out of it... I think more so than a fretted, a teacher would help. Just a view... no evidence to back that up...
18. Can you clarify, "fret markers replaced with darker ones"?
19. Love the track... quite like the video but it's a bit lazy... copy a much loved children's classic and subvert it with a much loved horror classic but hey, I guess that counts as good design these days. 'Pyramid Song' was my gateway song into RH as the rhythm section reminded me of early Crimson.
20.
Both good, both different. Hard to quantify really! Best to watch the various videos and let your ears decide. If you are interested in the VMTD I would make sure to get the new version with boost/attack switches or the Ultra version do out any time now.
Looking forward to the VMT Ultra... even with the Two Notes... Which continues to confound with it multitudinous parameter combinations...
21.
Dannybuoy, How does this compare with the Darkglass Vintage Deluxe? Have my heart set on a VMT but curious nonetheless☺
From my earlier post, "A/B'd this against a Darkglass VMTdeluxe in Bass Direct. That was a lovely pedal too with more distortion but less overall heft. The Two Notes sounds like a rig whereas the VMT provides more of a mid & treble snark, albeit a very pleasurable one but I was looking to replace an amp rig for recording so the Two Notes fits the bill."
22.
ScrumpyMike - congrats, she's a beauty! Has a sort of Alembic look to it. Very nice
Agree - looks lovely... Alembic meets JD to my eyes but a beaut! And a bargain.
23. ...or you could just play it... a lot and let nature take its course. (But that Sandberg looks awesome...)
24.
How does the headphone out sound on these? I think the cab simulation only effects the DI and headphone out. I'm after something with a really great sounding headphone out.
I echo Opticaleye's comments above and can certainly recommend you try one. (Can't recommend you buy unheard as grit and overdrive tones seem to be deeply personal!) However, I'd add a caveat: Channel 1 is quiet with a pleasing amp-rig heft. (Unlike many here I like the 'woof' the cab sim adds.) Channel 2 is higher gain so an element of hiss is introduced as you get hotter. Cold fusion layers these tones so point 2 above applies Hot fusion multiplies these sounds so if you're pushing the gains and channel 1 volume and treble, yes you will get noise alongside your barking bass tone. Keep things under control gain wise and you get a very pleasing, musical gritty articulation which sounds superb through headphones. Recommend you take a trip to Bass Direct or Andertons further South and try one. Make sure you watch the promo vids and note down some sample settings so your trial is not a frantic knob twiddling fest (ooh er!) to try and get a good tone. It's quite a sophisticated bit of kit with a large amount of variability based on your bass settings, the channel interactions and the mid controls.
25. Blimey... major surgery there.... Personally I love the super hi-fi sound of the GB circuit... Nails the Super-J sound but also I like the forky neck pick-up sound for rock too. Hope it works out...
