Hated fusion and said so! Plus it doesn't swing, another bug-bear of his, and a whole other debate. Personally I quite like it. This album's also got Stanley on it singing too on a great track.
2. Cliff's dead!? When?
3. Both posted before in other threads but worth re-stating here: This is pretty crunchy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGdQUMzRVxA&feature=player_embedded Chris Squire does a good distorted tone too from time to time - his classic here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9E0FCrimVlI visog
4.
I changed from DRs to Warwick EMPs over 5 months ago, the same set are still almost as bright as when I bought them. I'm a total convert, they sound fantastic! Big, bright, throaty and they feel lovely to play. They are quite expensive but they've repaid the investment greatly. I've probably put about 50 hours on them in the studio, rehearsals and live. They've still got ages left in them. If you want to hear what they sound like for slap and for warm tones, I have a couple of recordings here .. http://soundcloud.co...-where-the-eyes http://soundcloud.co...y-2012-umlhalho
silddx, Offtopic but I'm loving Umlhalho and Weird Chord. The latter sounds like a Holdsworth intro. Re. strings I'd always use Rotosounds as a default. Bright with tons of life. visog
5. When Wal GAS builds up, think of Power Windows and that should release some of it.
6. Never met a girl like you before has always been attributed to Edwin Collins. Don't let one mis-informed YT poster make you think the whole world is wrong. A more frequent problem is the likes of Hendrix who does brilliant reworkings which become definitive. All along the watchtower anyone?
7. Never mind the looks, how does it sound? Then, how does it play? Finally how does it balance? If it's as light as people are saying, it may neck dive? I'm disappointed it doesn't have Damien's ramp. I suspect it ticks all the boxes above.... (apart from the ramp)
8.
can't get this to work, is it left handed lee on bass?
No, LP is a hired gun. This guy invented a whole style of bass playing.
9. Don't forget his band mates who were pretty progtastic also... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RA_wEnOVWcQ&feature=related Bass goodness starts at 2:42
10.
Who?
The man who killed music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoSydlvu2-Y
11.
Wonderful player. Very sad mental health disorder. Arrogant as f***. Prone to uncontrolled displays of virtuosity. Bores me to tears. And more so do all those who try to copy him. But he is a legend.
"Bores you to tears"? Really? Well you're unlucky because for me, he's transcendental on every track he played (when he was straight).
12. What on earth is 'Power Rock Bass Systems'? Nice Jaydee fretless. Looks like Nigel Clutterbuck? Hair by Gene Simmons of Kiss. He's just missing the demon make-up. Bare feet is a no-no for an Englishman. Usual 80's fixation on harmonics which he bashes out to the point of annoyance. Intonation iffy on the post-Jaco chords. Steve Bailey drunk vibrato. Quite enjoyed the 'Purple Haze'. Is he just making this commentary up? All in all not a great advert for fretless.
13. What on earth is a 'long horn'? (And don't say about 10"+)
14. Great video thanks... what a legacy!
15.
They were/will soon be at Ronnie Scott's - anyone go/going?
I did tee the forum up but to little interest: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/172643-stanley-stuart-copeland-at-ronnie-scotts/page__fromsearch__1
16. "£500 will buy you anything!" Really? I have a Fodera then... with 9 strings.
17. Well if I had a time machine, and a musical family, I'd follow his tips. Actually isn't this how rock musicians used to learn before music schools saw a market and formalised the whole process?
18. Funkypenguin, This looks like an impressive piece of work: 5 flats, 13/8 time and 7-ledger lines! Shouldn't we go to the treble clef for those higher notes? visog....
19.
Thong? Yes please! Great, the evening's picking up a bit now!
I'll just tune up my g-string now then.
20.
Pics, or your fat didn't happen.
My wife will assure you it did! Let me work out how to get pic's on this site again and I'll regale you with pics of a large sack of beer with kebab floating in it. Do you want thong? visog
21. Worst thread ever.... A load of fat old men with basses Nothing personal - I'd rather hear you all than see you. Yours, a particularly fat old man
22.
Cant go wrong with a fender jazz mate.
As a make and model it's 'industry standard' but individual examples vary massively - even new. Fender's QC is very patchy with some new, non-entry level basses needing a set-up, new nut and strings before being playable.
23.
I've sort of lost count of the amount of gear that bloke has endorsed in just the last few years . As much as he's a monster player , and comes across as a really nice guy , this constant endorsment switching is becoming endemic
Really? He's settled on Status basses after trying others over the years. Not sure how many others he actually endorsed. And did he endorse any strings before? He's gone from TE to Ashdown to TC Electronic amps over the years too but I'm not sure I'd call it 'constant endorsement switching'. Besides, as a professional musician, it will be part of your income really - especially someone with the profile of MK.
24. A lot of these issues are discussed here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/161187-how-good-are-high-end-basses/page__fromsearch__1
25. Unfortunately I never got to see Jaco but... I have seen: Chris Squire Geddy (PW and MP tours) Victor (with the Flecktones) Stanley (with George Duke, solo, RTF and Animal Logic) Gary Willis Jeff Berlin (with John McLaughlin) Tonly Levin (with King Crimson as quartet, double trio and with Peter Gabriel) Billy Sheehan Mark King John Patitucci (with the Elektric Band) .... and Adam Clayton! All good in their own way.
