been looking at the polytune pedal but this seems like a better option (cos i'm a cheap skate) and as my fender tuner doesnt recognise low B i needed a new one so taken a punt on one, hope theyre worth it

non winner review - been using Elixirs since 2007 when i bought my Ibanez SR500 as they are standard kit on their basses. The early versions of the strings did tend to fray overy the pickups (picking area) and i only occasionally use a pick, the more recent versions i've had are lasting alot better. I love the feel and the fact that the tone stays there for ALOT longer than any other string i have used, particularly the top end but not lacking in low end either, they also have a nice bit of growl to them. I dont practice that much due to time constraints so i can eaasily get 9 months + out of a set. As said elsewhere string noise minimal as i rattle and they are nice and smooth without being too slick. Yep they are expensive but if you factor in how many sets youd get through of uncoated strings in the time you get out of the Elixirs then you actually save money. No brainer really, best strings i've used.

the hall we practice in at the back of a social club (and have done for years) has had me on edge since i set foot in it, always seeing a dark shape moving out the corner of my eye, not always in the same place, sometimes near the stage sometimes at the end of the room where the bar is and not every time we are in there. But one particular time when the own ers were having the hall renovated sticks in all our minds. So like i say the hall was being redecorated and alot of the chairs had been stacked up at the bar end of the hall, there was general decorating stuff on the floor just in front of the stage and wires hanging down from the ceiling, so we couldnt practice in there but they said we could practice in the pool room just next to the hall. So we lug all our gear out of the hall and into the pool room and set up. did out 2 hour practice and then started packing away. When we went back into the hall we noticed 3 chairs in the middle of the dance floor that hadnt been there when we set up, questions ensued but none of us had been in and moved the chairs and one of us would have noticed someone moving them, we saw no one ( ok the hall was dark as it had no power at the time). We were told later by the old lady who does the bar occasionally that she hears all sorts of odd noises when shes packing up and is convinced the place is haunted. We've also had weird noises randomly come out of the monitors (no its not the guitarist) which start and stop for no reason and only come out of one monitor at a time (we have 3) and the dark shapes. we still use the place as its cheap and we can store our stuff there. but yeah creeps the beezjeezus out of us at times. love this sh*t

just a little update on the electronics, the nordstrands are lovely and growly and really bite if you dig in a bit, the mid switch is very subtle i would say the range of sounds from the nordys isnt as wide as from the barts on my SR500 (you can go from a P type sound to a jazz nasal honk or very clean blending the two) b ut they certainly are good
-
they are lovely basses, nice i considered the 5ver before going for the SR, and those nordys are truely great pickups plenty growly
-
used to use elites and slinkys years ago, but my SR's come with Elixirs and i love them, last for bloody ages and great tone. the coating makes them comfortable too
I have the 1605 - they are fantastic basses, sound covers a lot of ground. Be careful if you ever take the neck off to set it up though that you put the screws back in the right way
i'll never be doing that, but i'll remember to tell the tech that little factoid
Did you have to take Mrs lowhand away on holiday to offset the new bass?
was already booked so it probably helped just had a little noodle on it at work acoustically, suprisingly easy to get round the 5 string neck, thought i'd fumble, i'll need to relearn a few songs but the neck is sooo straight its amazing, better than my 500 (though youd expect that for the spec) guess the Ti rods help
-
yep, self taught, never had a lesson, had a beginners bass book then bought some GnR tab books, learnt the lot and gone from there playing by ear or tab, should really sit down to some of scott devines stuff but have no time so just learn new songs for the band as i need to
-
that body finish looks lovely, bet its better in the flesh good score
-
That looks beautiful... are they Nordstrands in there? Happy NBD
they sure are, got to wait to run them in anger as going away on holiday really pleased with the rosewood top, it not bolt straight like some examples
Cor, lumme! Bexleyheath you say? I'll be right over!
got a gig coming up at crayford social club, pop down and have a drool

thanks guys, cant stop looking at it, feel like i'm 10 those guys know how to make a top bass for not tooo much money (well it still is alot of money)
-
the wood grain is lovely, even better in hand, the case is really nice too. the action seems a little high so i'll need to get that sorted. the neck is a work of art as usual. well chuffed fit and finish is top notch too
my parcel made it to the national hub at about midnight and is now loaded for delivery at my local depot, the trouble is that the parcel force delivery to work never arrives before 2 and is usually about 3, that seems like an age! unusually it took nearly 4 days to get to Koln then parcel force took under 24 hours to get it over here and onto the local delivery van. hopefully It will arrive before i finish today, as it's coming to my work address it's very likely to arrive (difficult to claim no-one was In when we have a staffed reception during office hours) i'll get a polite message from our wonderful reception team when it arrives. Matt
im in the same situation, on van for delivery, bloody hurry up already
-
well its on the move somewhere, its now saying "The shipment has arrived in the destination country", no idea what country that is but its something
-
I thought most things would've been by air, simply going by the usual average delivery time.
i would be very suprised if it was air it is what it is, it will come (regardless of the fact i want it yesterday )
-
damn, i ordered a bass on friday and was hoping to see it this week, guess i wont see it till after i come back from holiday I'll stop checking the tracking area as it seems pointless at the moment
That's the spirit!
only took me a month
-
That’s just weird
yes it is, though i have addressed that problem now and done the deed and am already in the i want it now phase

i run my active bass into the passive input on my ashdown as the active input lowers the level too much, never had a problem, just use your ears. i have a passive squire jazz that has a montrous output which is louder than the ibanez
